I posted in another thread that I was prescribed Ativan for tension headaches. My doc said if I don't like Ativan, I can try it's "first cousin, Xanax." What is the difference? Is one better than the other? Does one make you less tired? Is one less expensive?

ativan is weaker than Xanax,
Depending on your body, Xanax will probably make you more sleepy than Ativan, also IMO Xanax is better and works better than A...... Not sure on the prices. Just depends which OP you get them from, however it was my choice, I would go with the Xanax

I was on xanax 1mg for quite awhile, which worked ok. I was changed to ativan 2mg (alot cheaper) and it just seems to work better for me. Some people say xanax is better but not in my opinion. May I suggest ordering a small amount for a trial? Some things work for some people some don't. It just depends on you. You can not always go by what should be better its what works for YOU.

PS I order ativan 2mg from an IOP for 20.00 per 50, so its quite abit cheaper.

I picked up my .5mg generci Ativan today at Rite-Aid. It was only 10 tabs and it was $5.41. I know that's cheap compared to most medications, but I was expecting it to be like, $3 at the most. I can only imagine how much it would cost if I was taking 2mg or something twice a day and I was getting it from an OP. WOW!

I order from an IOP and 50 2mg ativan cost less than 20.00 and that includes shipping.

Xanax tends to be more habit forming, than ativan.
