Hi, my very first post and hoping for help regarding a trip to the border. I'm considering a trip to Tijuana. Ive heard I can see a Dr. there because they dont take my Dr's RX there for pain medication. I dont want to do anything illegal. Can I actually get the RX and meds in their pharmacies and get back home without problems at the border? I hear the prices are suppose to be so much cheaper. Because the trip is 4 hours away, Im wondering if bringing a 3 month supply is too much, or should I only try for a month supply? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Anyone know the truth about what happens at the border when you come back home?
Thank you

Hi retired, and welcome to the board! Your best bet is to go to the Search Function, make sure you enter All Forums, Mexico and/or Tijuana, and All Posts.
You will be greeted with many lively discussions and a couple useful links from American ex-pats and retirees who buy their meds there.
I love Mexico, but I am much more cautious there now for good reason, and I continually kick myself that I am not as fluent in Spanish as I could be. Speaking someone else's language would give so much more advantages.
Good luck and don't forget to do some friendly bargining with the vendors for Xmas! Never buy at the first shop; they are pretty similiar in merchandise, but you will get a better feel for the situation.
OH, and as they say in fairy tales, stay on the beaten path, and don't get too friendly with strangers (I am talking Californian deadbeats, by the way, so, watch your back! Have fun! I think if you get retiree medication, along with your maybe sleep aids and or pain meds, you are less likely to get hassled--but you really need to do the Search, as I believe the restrictions are getting tighter.
I also say do an overnighter and that way you are more of a tourist. Find a hotel in Rosarito, or Puerto Nuevo, buy a lobster dinner, and come back with a few blankets. You will stick out much less.
Neo-Percodan is not Percodan. They have Tylox--not great, but maybe it works for you. Oxycontin-oh lord, that is scarier than it used to be. I can't advise, but be careful and don't allow yourself to get distracted, ok? Wear your money inside your clothes (big bills) and go with friends, not alone.

If you can take someone who speaks the language or if you do yourself, BIG HELP! There are many threads you can search for on the board. Don't be afraid to declare those meds. My understanding is a three month supply is legal as long as you tell them. YOU DO NOT WANT TO GET CAUGHT NOT DECLARING BRINGING MEDS ACROSS! Good luck and search away.

That is when you can legally bring over so many units for personal use. How much depends on if it is a controlled substance.

I am not sure about this but I think the mex med is tylex not tylox. Tylox is an american med that contains oxy. tylex is basically darvocet from what I understand.

2 very important things to remember when purchasing scheduled medications in Mexico. The first get a prescription most pharmacies there have a doctor on hand to do this for a small fee. Get a copy of it. Second you can only bring back 50 doseage units of a controlled substance and you must declare it. Take care. Billylll
