okay EVERYONE, THIS IS IT!!!
I don't know if you saw the story on pain keeping people from being productive; obviously some smart person steered that reporter in the right direction.
WE GOTTA FIGHT NOW!!!!
By the way, I know we are not just fighting for the right to opioids and benzos; we are fighting for quicker response to symptoms, before the nerves learn their ingrained lesson, we are fighting for dignity, we are fighting to be counted, we are fighting not to be "oh that poor washed-out person! they used to be so full of life!" (meaning part of the competition), we are fighting to admit we need pain meds and the absence of fear to ask our docs for scheduled, humane 'holidays', and also we are fighting for some research on how to release these endorphins and serotonin, and dopamine, on our own, without meds, by some kind of natural stimulation.
With all those poor animals with electrodes on their heads, no one has figured this out?
COME ON!!!
The moment I can do it on my own, I will drive, no speed past every pharmacy and every drs office.
I would love to pay them only if they kept me WELL!!!
I think we all have gotten scared lately; now it is time for focussed, non-violent, attack; by mail, by e-mail (be careful; find a way to do it anon.) by calls, by constant, unrelenting attention.
Just like they are giving us.

Okay. We need to compile a list of sites at which we can post our stories. What media outlet do we want to target? Talk shows? Newspapers? How about putting out a few good links and bombarding them enough that they have to tell our storyies.
Now, here's where we'll draw concern from others on this board. Thus far, our tactic has been to keep a low profile as a group, right? We need to consider how "fighting back" might backfire before we start "class action."

Spinerval, you make an excellent point, and one that has stopped me so far from talkin to people on the street. That's why I want to go with friendly anon SHORT letters and a penny that come from no particular place.
AANNDDI intend to include something else; a rough calculation of how much money the government loses by my not working my feet off like I like to do, and how much they stand to lose by losing resources like the clever, kind, and strong people who suffer from intractable pain,
and the sheer volume we could add to the GNP and volunteer for people and animals in need, if we could count on ourselves not to cripple up unexpectedly.
Yeah, cripple. I was born crippled. I am on my way back there now- that is okay, but I am not going quietly.
Oh, no-one here should feel any guilt about not stepping forth and identifying themselves! We want to start a deluge of mail, not create more martyrs for our cause. We have enough of those.
Do the lobbyists take out full page ads and picture IDS?
Do we know their SSNs?
How much of that 'soft' money come from offshore accounts?
I think the reason we have not seen more convictions from the CEO debacles of the last years is that they took the time to pay attention to that good cop adage, "Follow the MONEY"!
From what I understand, a lot of our taxpayer money that could go to maybe helping the people who lost their life savings is instead needed to untangle and track down the complicated courses these crooks sent their income along.]
Privacy is not just for millionaires, okay? It is for all of us. I will be wearing cotton gloves, dishwashing gloves, some kind of gloves when I send these pennies and sound bites, and I will not mail same time same post office.
Protect yourselves while protesting.
That is not terrorism.
That is not un-patriotic, no matter what a certain Mr. Cheney says.
These guys are considering Smart Stamps that id the sender; better send while we still can.
The problem with being nice and laidback is that greedy guys with an agenda waste no opportunities. So, let's put our money where their mouth is!!!!!

This is the WORST news I have seen in a YEAR.
This is it, there is no recovering from this MASSIVE forum receiving this kind of exposure.
I just wrote an enormous summary of the entire misdirected battle to the feedback area on their website, as well as exposing little bo twit for the big pharma watchdog that he is.
This is REALLY BAD. I can't even comprehend how bad this is.

I agree, Sonick, and that is why we are going to pull together and start sending out anon. messages that are courteous, concise, and frustrated NOW.
If the stats are as BAD as the media says, we are one heck of a voting block. Let's think of it that way.
But yeah, just so you know, my heart is sinking too, so I am talking tough, but my knees are knocking!!!

Was this guy addicted to pain meds? If not, why is he detracting from missing children (a much more relevant topic considering his own child). I always had mixed feelings on that guy the way he capitalized on his child's disappearence - a horrible unforgivable crime, but still, he only seems to show up at kidnappings that are public (like Eliz. Smart). I guess he's done a lot of good for that cause, but doing a show on pain med addiction, to me, says he is blatently advertising.
But I digress, sorry it's early for me.

Good question Junebug - I went on to his website to see exactly what the content of the show is going to be - doesn't look good, will post below:
Link
PRESCRIPTION ADDICTION: A PAINFUL NEW REALITY
Rush Limbaughs recent admission that he was addicted to the powerful prescription painkiller OxyContin thrust the rarely discussed issue of prescription drug addiction into the national spotlight. Prescription drug abuse is now the fastest growing type of drug abuse in the U.S. Today, we hear the gripping emotional struggles of addicts on the edge, who give us an inside look at their destructive behavior. We also hear from our guests terrified family members, who are afraid their loved ones will not survive these powerful addictions. As we learn today, the 9 million or so Americans currently struggling with prescription pill abuse do not fit the profile of your typical drug addict. In fact, many of them are people who on the surface appear to be productive members of society, but nevertheless find themselves breaking the law, conning their doctors, and destroying their families
all in a search for their next fix. First, we meet 19-year-old Andy and his mother, Susan. Andy is addicted to the prescription painkiller Dilaudid. He has been taking the prescription medication since he was 15 years old and says he uses up to 5 times a day. Susan is desperate to help her son kick his habit and hopes to get through to him that unless he stops using, he will die. Out of desperation, Susan has started enabling Andys drug use by controlling the amount he takes, so that he doesnt overdose. Andy and Susan join us via satellite from Toronto, Ontario in Canada to share their story, since Andys addiction prevented him from coming to our studio. Next, we meet Ryan, 21, a recovering addict who has been clean for 10 days after being in a detox program at the Waismann Institute. He says his addiction drove him to sell off his belongings and steal money from his parents
all in an attempt to keep up with his habit. Ryans father, Chuck, joins his son in the studio as Ryan speaks about his battle with addiction. Julie is an All-American mom who started taking the prescription painkillers Vicodin & Percocet, and ended up becoming so addicted that she started conning doctors into prescribing more. She shares her story, and discusses how she almost got arrested for her habit. Steven, Julies husband, has two reasons for coming to the show today. Besides his wifes addiction, Stevens 19-year-old son, Stevie, passed away from an OxyContin overdose in 2001. Steven speaks to teens all over the country about the dangers of prescription drug addition, and he founded an organization called DAMMAD (Dads and Moms Against Drug Dealers) that offers rewards that lead to the arrest and conviction of drug dealers. Next, we meet Bo Dietl, a former NYPD officer who is currently a private investigator. Bo shares the results of an experiment he conducted with his children Dana, 13 and Beau, 9 - in which they were able to order drugs like Ritalin & Prozac over the Internet without a prescription! Beau joins his dad in the studio to talk about his role in the experiment. Finally, we talk with Dr. Andrea Pennington, the Medical Director of the Discovery Health Channel and an addiction specialist. She lends her expertise to the discussion to help us better understand prescription addiction.
Andy
Andy, 19, is a prescription painkiller addict. His drug of choice is Dilaudid, a strong narcotic frequently used to provide pain relief to cancer patients. He also admits to abusing OxyContin, another powerful painkiller. Andy started abusing prescription medications when he was just 15 years old, and says he never thought that he could become an addict. He shares his shocking story of addiction with us today via satellite from Toronto, Ontario in Canada. We reveal to Andy and his mother, Susan, that we have arranged in-patient treatment for him at the highly regarded Waismann Institute, which has the highest success rate for opiate dependency treatment in the country.
Susan
Susan is Andys mother. She just found out about Andys addiction to prescription painkillers last year and says she is afraid Andy will die unless he stops using. Susan reluctantly admits that as a short-term solution, she enables Andys addiction by taking him to get his Dilaudid and controlling the amount he takes, since she is afraid he might overdose if left to his own devices. She says she has tried everything she can think of to get Andy to stop using, to no avail, and she says she is desperate to find the right treatment for Andys addiction. She also joins us via satellite from Toronto, Ontario in Canada.
Andrea Pennington, M.D.
Dr. Pennington is the Medical Director for the Discovery Health Channel and is the founder of the Pennington Institute for Health & Wellness. She is an addition specialist, and she lends her expertise and advice to todays guests in the studio.
health.discovery.com/newsbreak/focus/drandreabio.html
Ryan
Ryan, 21, is a recovering prescription painkiller addict. He recently went through a detox program at the Waismann Institute and has been clean for 10 days. Ryan says he pawned his own belongings and stole money from his parents to keep up with his $250 a day habit. He describes what it feels like to be on the drug, his lowest point, and the incident that made him turn his life around. Ryan also shares some advice for our guest, Andy.
Chuck
Chuck is Ryans father. He describes what he and his family went through in order to deal with his sons powerful addiction to painkillers.
Julie & Steven
Julie, a typical American wife and mother, says she was addicted to two prescription painkillers Vicodin and Percocet. Julie says that her addiction became so severe that she would lie to doctors to get more painkillers, and even had her friends go doctor shopping to get her prescriptions. Julie says she almost got arrested for abusing painkillers after her husband, Steven, got police involved. Julie is now in recovery, and she shares her story with us today. Unfortunately, their story doesnt end there. Stevens son (and Julies stepson), Stevie, overdosed on OxyContin and died in 2001. To ensure his sons death wasnt in vain, Steven founded an organization called DAMMAD (Dads and Mad Moms Against Drug Dealers), a group that offers cash rewards for tips that lead to the arrest and conviction of drug dealers. Steven also speaks in schools and shares his personal story with students across the country in the hopes of preventing other young people from becoming addicts.
Bo Dietl
Bo is a former New York City police officer who now runs his own private investigation company. Bo enlisted his two children - Dana, 13, and Beau, 9 - to conduct an experiment to show just how easy it is for minors to buy prescription drugs over the Internet. He talks about the test he conducted, and discusses the various dangerous implications the importation of prescription medicine via the Internet may have on our citizens.

Beau
Beau, 9, is Bos son. He joins his father in the studio to tell us what happened when he tried to purchase prescription drugs over the Internet.

Sounds like Bo acted with a reckless disregard for the welfare of his child, Beau, in conducting the "experiment". He taught the nine year old how to order drugs on the internet, for goodness sake! :confused Way to go, Bo! Is he exploiting his children so he can enrich his PI business? Could this type of rationale be the reason that he is a FORMER police officer?

Teaching your kids to order meds from the internet; kind of like giving them your credit card and telling them to order some porn (some medication sites have some pretty, umm, interesting pop-up ads too).
Didn't sound like any of his guests were pain patients; they were recreational drug users. BIG difference.

Hee Hee! Rush is quite a guy. Not my cup of tea, but I hope he works through his problems. Did he call liberals "spineless linguine?" Should I be offended by that? Time to get my Ted Kennedy doll out of the attic!

The sad truth is that many people who originally had legitimate pain concerns end up with addictions/dependencies to opiates or other medications. The drug seeking then becomes withdrawal prevention due to uninformed doctors "cutting them off." Many of these former pain patients end up on methadone or other "maintenance" programs. They are then stigmatized for life as being an "addict." There is a thread running right now about one of our own who falls into this category. How many of you also fall into this category and are too afraid to speak up? Let's not judge too harshly.
There are also flat-out addicts looking for the high, or to stave off withdrawal from an illicit addiction.
I don't know if the medical establishment differentiates between the 2 or even cares. I care, because I know people who fall into both categories. I also know alcoholics.
The problem here is that we cannot stop addiction by trying to preventing access to these substances. We can only educate doctors, our politicians and law enforcement personnel to change their antequated notions of good-vs-evil. The truth is, there is a HUGE gray area that many good, decent people fall into.
Any one of you who experiences withdrawal should be able to empathize with those who are in it and are unable to "justify" a continuing need for medications. Fear of withdrawal alone is enough to keep some people on opiates long past their therapeutic window closes.
Granted, media hype does nothing to educate or help anyone. The problem is that we can scream and scream about the unfairness of it all, but it really won't make a difference unless we all research our politicians, VOTE, and educate our friends and neighbors.
Ahem, time to step off the soapbox now.
