Hey - I have noticed that there is an increasing frequency of people replying to posts and deleting the title of the post (or thread).
It makes it really confusing when you are reading many posts in a thread. I'll get down to maybe the 10th reply, or whatever, and notice that the title has been changed or deleted entirely.
Then I'll think - shoot, I don't remember what the subject of this thread is really supposed to be! Then I'll have to scroll up, scroll up, scroll up, scroll up (you get the picture) and try to find the subject of the post...

Sorry about that...I have to admit I am guilty of that myself (just once!) when I responded yesterday to a poster who had changed the title. I couldn't remember what the original title was or I would have changed it back.
Edited to add that I did change the title of my post back to the original title.
Forgive me?

You're right, this is really annoying! I think many people who do this must think they are giving a title to just their post, and don't realize that they are re-titleing the entire thread.
This can be totally confusing, especially when doing a search. There is an NWW thread that is 18 pages long, and the thread title sort of morphs in several directions along the way, (although in that case the title is being modified, not totally changed, so it's less confusing).
What's the polite thing to do when we notice a thread title being changed? Just quietly change it back? Or scream and shout and call attention to the crime?

I believe that I recently read from DB that this is one of the instances in which the "notify moderator" button should be hit. They can either choose to fix the subject title or delete the post, and also privately let the offending party know that subjects should not be changed in the future.

WOW, I never even bothered to notice that each individual post has a title, much less changed one, so I'm glad I read this before accidentally commiting that one. As long as the thread has new posts, and the thread title in the list is interesting, I click & read in a new window. To each their own style, I guess, but I gotta admit that i've never gotten confused or lost from a post edit.
Man, the 'wild old days' of the net sure are over... 'sniff, I miss those days when 'bad' words weren't censored, among other things, but it's no longer 1985 and it's not the 'boys club' that it once was.

I share the complaint! Perhaps DB should code the site so replies to existing threads cannot be retitled.
I have noted that the past few "offenders" have been people new to the board, or at least with relatively few posts.
I always change it back to the original post title when responding and someone has changed the title.
Anyway- just my thoughts on this issue...

See, I thought there were just multiple posts floating around under different threads....this reminds of when I was in a ...place, and when some new stressed out broken down crazed person came in, we veteran twisted ones loved to tweak their last nerve.
Like the phone would ring...and the person would say "hey, the phone is ringing! why doesn't anyone answer?"
And we would all turn with blank looks and say "What phone? I don't hear any phone!"
a ha ha hee hee hoo hoo uh oh not all the way better yet...
