I wanted to post an update on my migraine saga. Well, it's been 2 weeks without any Hydro. I still have the headaches, I have the full blow migrane & tension.
I saw my PCP & Neuro this morning and was very bold with them. I told them what works for me & I am tired of this pain! The PCP had no problem with prescribing something but would not do so since my Neuro appt was 2hrs later. I have been seeing my PCP for 17years & he knows me in and out. I explained my situation and that I am taking control of my life. No, I would rather not be on opiates the rest of my life but that is the only thing that helps. Call me addicted or whatever, I laid it all on the table & was assertive w/him. He asked that Neuro to call him so they can discuss my case. I saw Neuro & laid it all out for him, I got the addiction speech, rebound headaches etc.( I have been down this road many times) but I told him that I am willing to try the Migraine meds but until we find one that works, I need something for the pain. I cannot tolerate it anymore. I don't have anymore $$ to spend on OP's right now. I am going on week 3 of being off work. Anyway, I told him if he scripted me the Norco & I take more than I am supposed to, then I will run out & that's my fault, I take full responsibility for my actions. He scripted me Fiorcet, Vistrel & Norco. No refills. I am & will take only as prescribed, I will not up my dosage because I am not getting the pain relief I need, I will call him to discuss. He was not very willing to script the Norco but he did call PCP while I was there & understood my history & felt better because Neuro's don't like to script narcotics for headaches. I am done with the Predisone & FINALLY getting some sleep, it did not help to knock out this headache. To add fuel to the fire, I was getting up off a chair that has wheels & fell flat & hard on my face on a concrete floor last night. I have a black eye & the whole side of face is swollen & it hurts like you know what. Neuro doesn't think I fractured anything but sending me for xray tomorrow to make sure. I also see him to try a migrane med but I have to be monitored in his office because of the high blood pressure. So, that's all for now, overall I am okay, could be better but at least I stood up for myself & said what I had to say to both doc's.
I want to thank everyone for their support & words of wisdom on my previous threads, they were really appreciated.
I'm going to go take the Norco (1st time ever taking this) & get ice on my face cause it's hurting. I hope everyone is doing well and having a pain free Monday.

I'm glad you got the two of them to work together to help you! My PCP won't do anything - she wants the neuro to do it. He's still trying me on Topomax and Zonegran. I did squeeze 15 Midrin out of him and had to have him call in some Fioricet for me. But, I ended up at the ER anyway and he was there that night, and they gave me something different in the ER. I had an awful reaction to it. I was supposed to be very very good for migraines. My legs felt so restless, I was wiggling all over the place, I could barely swallow and I had a hard time breathing. That's even when them giving me Benadryl also. So, I did get my 5mg. of morphine that knocked it out for a few hours. It hasn't come back as bad, but it's still here. I just can't use up all of what he's given me. I just hate all this. I'm so tired of it all!

Not for nothing, Purple, but it sounds like life is dealing you a boat load of pain these days! So sorry for all that is going on. I had two black eyes last year after a fall in the bathroom. It's bad enough the physical appearance, when you add the discomfort makes it all the worse. One thing that helped - a bag of frozen veggies over the bruised area. Aleviated the pain and helped some w/ the swelling. Good luck!

Purple, good for you, you did that very well!I am impressed. I suffer with migranes also so i know what you are going through. Let me know if any "new" drug therapy works for you.

Hang in there, Purple. Migraines SUCK! I'm sure something will work out for you. Then you start enjoying life even more because you'll realize how good you feel when you don't have a migraine!

What is Midrin? I have heard of it before but Neuro hasn't offered it to me yet. I still take the Topomax but today I was supposed to go in & try something (I think it starts with an "A") I couldn't get in today, my eye is swollen shut & I did not want to drive. Going in on Weds & will let you know the name of the med. Just wondering about the Midrin. PM me & let me know if you can. Thanks!

What do you take for your migraines? I had a thread going on this before & wrote stuff down but can't find my list of meds that other's take & now I can't find my original thread here! Bad day today, my eye is swollen shut and going to see the Neuro tomorrow cause I couldn't drive today. When you have a chance, PM me. Thanks

This has been a bad couple of months & this past week really has been bad. My eye is swollen shut & I couldn't drive to the Neuro today so hubby is taking me tomorrow to try a new migraine med. My face & eye hurts like you know what but when I do something, I don't do it halfway, I go all out! I just can't fall & have a scrape, I have to fall so hard that my whole side of my face is swollen etc. I look like someone beat me with a baseball bat! The neuro was really questioning me about my injury, he thought my hubby beat me. But I will be okay and thanks for your support!

You poor thing! Midrin was one of the first things I was offered years ago after tramadol. It used to make me sleepy and didn't really work, so that's why I quit. I know my doc says it's got three things in it. Go HERE to check out what all it is and about it. It doesn't really say much about it. It won't knock out the bad headaches, but the lesser ones it can take care of. Hence, I was GLAD my neuro was on call, so he would know what I'm going through and that his crapola isn't helping me much. Good luck to you Wednesday!!
