Awhile back I found a little calculation program that would tell you the equivilence between hydro and codeine. Anyone know what it is or how to find the program. For instance, if you have 15mg of codeine and 10 mg of hydro, which is what to the other?
Does that make sense?
Thanks,
Hoot

Here's another narcotic equivalency calculator that I use.
http://www.medcalc.com/narcotics.html
And since nobody else has refuted the incorrect codeine to hydrocodone equivalency, I will do so...
10mgs of codeine is equal to about 0.5mg of hydrocodone.

10 mg. codeine equals (approx.) 0.3 - 0.6 hydrocodone, according to the MediCalc calculator. Be sure to change administration "Route" to "PO" in both fields. In the other calculator recommended by kjb, 10 mg. equates to about .5 mg hydrocodone, given a cross tolerance reduction of 50%. I think it's important to note at globalrph.com's site, there is a nice little explanation of the inaccuracy of these calculators. Click on the "?" next to the tolerance field to read.
So, it would seem that it takes about 200 mg. codeine to approximate about 5 mg. hydrocodone, or Vicodin. Thatsa' lot of codeine intake in one dose. I'd expect you'd have severe BM problems at that dosage level.
And, that's another reason hydrocodone is so popular--but it's more addictive and the withdrawal more uncomfortable.
For moderate pain, codeine phosphate or sulfate and dihyrocodeine (DHC), the strongest of the codeine family (IMO), do well, especially DHC. But for severe to killer pain, hydro's the way to go. With some APAP added, codeine's analgesia can be increased, as with the venerable Tylenol w/Codeine line (esp., #3).
I prefer oxycodone, though, over all of 'em, but it's virtually unavailable via the net OPs.

NO! 400mgs of hydro and you'd be dead!

I worked briefly in a methadone clinic, and this was the basic conversion we used. It isn't 100% accurate, but is better than most found online.

The math is wrong. 100mgs of codeine would be equal to 5mgs of hydrocodone at 20mgs of codeine to 1mg of hydrocodone or 10mgs of codeine to .5mgs of hydrocodone.
Just so we don't have any accidental overdoses here!
