you can get quite a bit of meds from int'l op's, pain meds are all with codeine which I can't take. Why is vicodin, loratab and hydro only available in the states? I've even seen oxycotin I think overseas. Any answers......

Booker - my initial response is to read the board, but the search function on DB is close to useless, so I'll give you a simplified answer. Most countries have their own version of scheduling narcotic analgesics. There are variations amongst countries, but most tightly control the opioid semi-synthetics, like hydrocodone and oxycodone.
What you can find easily from many european IOP's is dihydrocodeine (DHC), which is OTC in some countries. In the US, unless it is mixed with APAP, it is schedule II and you won't see it often - hydro became more popular. In europe DHC is extremely popular and not tightly controlled.
Hopefully this helps a little.

Because Hydro is mfg in the US...so an IOP would have to import it from USA...then Export it to you...there are a few that claim to have it but terribly expensive...wish I could remember the names of them now...but not looking to buy it so don't pay much attention anymore...
you might try this op---they have talwin (pentazocine) which is a synthetic narcotic mixed agonist/antagonist....

no experience w/them but they have a deal and are advertising on db

If a person has a codeine allergy, but can take oxy and hydro, does anyone know if they would be likely to have an allergic reaction to dihydrocodeine?

FYI - I'm not allergic to codeine, I just can't take it. I can't sleep, I get itchy, I get flying high I've even bit a hole in the side of my mouth. Weird, huh? I have a friend who reacts the same way. The first time I had it was in a cough syrup and the doc said I'd sleep well. What a joke, I was SO high it was awful. There is a new cough med on the market that is supposed to work great with no codeine in it but my insurance won't cover it. Anyway, I was just being curious why there as so much codeine overseas and why vicodin or lortab was not available there, just here.

Yes, almost everyone who is allergic to codeine is allergic to dihydrocodeine. Dihydro still has a codeine base, its just modified.
