My doctor prescribed me Tramadol (Main Brand Name: Ultram) offlable for depression and social anxiety after i asked him for it. Ive tried around 20 meds over a period of 7 years for this and nothing does any good except Tramadol. Tramadol like other opioids is a Mu Agonist, but it is also a norepinephrine and serotonin reuptake inhibitor, more so with norepinepherine. Its first metabolite has 6 times more affinity for mu receptors than it itself and that metabolite is rendered through CYP2D6 metabolism. there are a small handful of studies on tramadol for depression. I can say, for me, its excellent for social anxiety also. I actually prefer it over the codones' and all other opioids. has anyone used tramadol for depression, social anxiety, that sort of thing? so far im having good luck with it with 0 side effects

Ultram is my first choice for opiate detox, and I keep a supply on hand at all times for that purpose. I find that if I can limit myself to four or less 50 mg tabs/caps per day, I get a significant reduction in my tolerance to hydro over 4-6 days. I also suffer from chronic low-level depression and find it to be an excellent remedy, my mood is definitely enhanced when I take it, without any feeling of drug-induced euphoria as with regular opiates. However, I am too freaked out by the seizure risk, so I don't take it for long periods -- a few weeks max, and I never exceed the max daily dosage. Your doc must be very cool to write for a use that it is technically not indicated -- they never approved tramadol for depression, at least I don't think so. In my book, tramadol is a weird but very useful drug.

Tramadol is THE mystery molecule. I have never seen such a variety of posts about the different impacts of a med, as this one. I read posts from people, who got deathly ill from taking it, and posts from people, who think it does nothing. Others have claimed severe withdrawal symptoms, when stopping and others (myself included) have none. Unfortunately, I haven't seen a lot of well documented studies about it in English. I believe it was developed by a Spanish pharmaceutical company and most work has been done on it in Europe.
To me tramadol is the universal potentiator. 50-100mg of tramadol goes well with everything: coffee; Vicopprofen; IB; Ritalin... but that's only my experience and there are a wide variety of other reports. BTW - I originally tried tramadol because my 75mg/day Effexor XR Rx was very effective at making me "not-depressed" and "not-anxious," but Effexor has a certain zombification effect. I was looking for something to put a little zest back into my life. Tramadol wasn't it, but it sure comes in handy at the oddest times.

for me it has the same withdrawl as hydrocodone, although ive never had major withdrawls from any because i never took a lot on a daily basis for a long period of time. but the withdral is the same, restlessness, depression, inability to fuction. and for me tramadol is superior to hydrocodone overall and equal to hydrocodone with the opioid effects alone. both fight anxiety but tramadol does it better because to me its just like combinding hydrocodone with say... a little strattera

I too find it a fascinating drug and I have read many people's reaction to it and find the same thing Plotinus does. One of my sisters and I swear by it, not only for pain but for anti depression as well, but our other sister says it does absolutely nothing for her. I know it has a seizure risk especially for those who have lowered seizure threshholds. But so far I am not having any trouble with it, I take 200mg a day in spaced doses. I have had to go without it for a few days and the only thing I have noticed is that I felt more tired than usual.

What ARE you talking about??? Plontinus made a totally polite & helpful post. I am tempted to ask if you overindulged in your last shipment, or are in withdrawals of some kind. However, I don't want to be accused of flaming you even though I am tempted I can only hope the "goodbye" at the end of your post means that you are going away from this board. This is negativity we DON'T need!!!

Thanks for the support guys, but Shine appears to have been having some difficulties last nite. This post kind of trailed over two threads, in the first of which I defended someone else much the way you guys defended me. Finally sent her a very positive PM with some suggestions about looking for help in LA and copied it to the Mods. I got a thankful PM back from her. My concern now is what happened, if we never hear from her again
BTW - I consider "guys" as a gender-neutral word

I hope that no one is taking this person seriously. This is the same person who is harrassing the members at several different forums. He/she has a variety of aliases (Danny, Stanley, William, nvrgvup, Dan etc.) and it's all the same garbage. He managed to get him/herself in alot of trouble on one of the forums. He was banned, joined with another user name, was banned again, and so on. Well, he decided that he wasn't getting the reaction he wanted so he started writing to the ops. In this email he was impersonating a DEA agent. He started out by threatening to close them down for allowing people to "feed their addictions", blah, blah. He went on to give the names of several forums for these ops to check out (including DB)to look for familiar user names and emails. He went on and on. Of course, none of the ops took the email seriously. In fact, a couple of the ops emailed a copy of it to the admin of the other board just so they could get a laugh out of it. It was so obviously from an unstable and uneducated person. The email was very poorly written and was riddled with spelling errors. The admin at the forum posted a copy of it for the members to read and it was actually funny.
But, though there were a couple of ops who found it funny, there were a couple that did not! The ones that did not were able to compare notes with each other, and the admins of a couple of the forums and they were able to finally identify him. Seems that together, they are going to press charges (one of them being impersonating a federal agent). Oh, and the ops were able to see just how many sites he was using at the same time. The number is unbelievable! (Another charge will stem from that.)
So, Shine, Danny, William, nvrgvup, Dan, Stanley, etc. I hope that you had fun for awhile, because it's just about to end. You deserve everything that's coming to you.

Well -- he/she did a pretty good job of impersonating a psychotic. Maybe there's a future in that line of work

No kidding, Plotinus! LOL I was puzzzled by the weirdness of shine's posts. Hopefully, he/she won't show up again. As I said before, this is negativity we DON'T need! This is a great forum & I would hate to see it hurt by this sort of delusional ranting (to put it politely).
