Anyone know if a Doctor can call in a presc. for Vicodin. I know some meds they can't call in by phone, but my Dr.'s office just said they would call it in for me. Curious! Thanks.

Yes, they can call in schedule 3-5 meds, but they can't call in schedule 2 meds.

My dentist does it when I have work done. That way, it's ready when I get there and my mouth is waking up.

I appreciate all of the responses. Now I guess I'll call the pharmacy and see if the Dr. actually came through! Doubtful, but you never know.

Don't think so...even if they could, no pharmacy in their right mind would accept a "phone in" on a sched II...too much risk of diversion

Pharmacies will accept phone ins on schedule II's from known oncologists. I used to get emergency scripts for MSContin on weekends sometimes and they were called in.

it's possible, but again, given the current climate, doubtful that many pharmacies would choose to fill the script even if it were called in....I just had my pharmacist, whose known me for 7 years, and know's my PM spec apologize profusely for not being able to give me six oxycontins with verbal authorization from the doc,(he forgot there were 31 days in October, thus requiring him to write my refill script for the 2nd of nov vs the 3rd) and he told me, the DEA is watching schedule II's like a hawk, and not tolerating ANY discrepancies AT ALL...so I doubt one would have much luck..but if you do that's great!

the answer is yes they can
my mother's doc will call vicodin in for her when her RA is really, really painful.
Doc's also call in hydro cough syrup. That said, there are some pharms that will not work that way and will not *honor* the prescription. You know those judgmental, busy body -type pharmacists who do not bat an eye dispensing drugs with very, very serious side effects, but God forbid someone needs a drug that just so happens to make some folks feel good.
And we certainly don't want people feelilng good!

Hydrocodone is not a schedule II substance and is commonly called in to pharmacies.
