While browsing another board I read that Oprah is supposedly going to do a show about people who are addicted to prescription pain medications. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

Yes Legitimate: It's to air on Nov 20th..Here is a link to a post of the lady that's going to be on it, the sad part is, no one is going to represent chronic pain issues. It's just one-sided about a well to do lady that pop pills to get high...Also she is going to discuss how she bought her meds online...Hope I do this link right, still on some serious meds from my surgery and my brain is still running on empty. Here goes: Going on Oprah It is several pages long but worth the read...There is also another thread you can go to where she post another message telling the air date...She posts under the name of Coachgal...

Thank you for the links and I hope you're doing well after your surgery? Going to read over the links. This just sounds like more negative press for us to me.
About the Suboxone - I'll need to do some reading up on that - I'll try a search and see what I can come up with. I think it's a new drug used to treat people who are addicted to opiates as opposed to Methadone, etc.

I think you're right, and to add to that, Suboxone is Buprenorphine AND Naloxone (a partial antagonist, iirc) while Subutex is just Buprenorphine. I've ordered & used straight buprenorphine on more than one occasion with fantastic results, although at the moment i'm not sure who exactly is reliably sending it right now.

Well that just aggravates me! That rich chump has lost a wee bit of respect from my end (not that it matters.. but anyway....) She has had some decent shows, I'm not an avid watcher but I will tune in to this one and throw things at the TV here and there I'm sure.
The bad press following opiate pain medications is really going to prove detrimental to the OP business, not to mention even jsut being PRESCRIBED them. Really ticks me off! where does it leave the rest of us? ARGH!
there always has to be some wanker who screws it up for everyone. I am all for pill popping junkies to get clean, but keep your mouth shut about it and stop the masterbatory meanderings about your yuppie arse "slumming" it. What a joke! They can take that sanctimonious rubbish and shove it as far as I'm concerned. - I wish you could see what finger I am holding up!
(sorry about the vent there, felt good to say it though)

Oh boy, this is much worse than the Rush thing. Oprah, for better or for worse, carries a big stick. I remember her saying something about her relatives that were taking drugs, and she asked them "why don't you just stop, it's as simple as that". Yeah, really?? Have another donut, Oprah....If she goes on a crusade against OPs, we are all in trouble. Do not underestimate her "power". S--t! this woman can make things happen.
Perhaps, us CPers could write some letters to her show before this airs to tell the flip side of things?? Just a thought. She is not without sympathy. Her buddy, Dr. phil(gag), however is another ball of s--t.
I live near Amarillo, where the big lawsuit took place. She did her show from here and went to court every day. That is where she got hooked up with Dr. Phil. Perhaps it is just me but it is so arrogant and irritating when someone uses their first name after their "title". It's either Phil or Dr. Macgraw. Come on. It's like saying "I'll let you use my first name, but with the DR. part, just to remind you that I AM better than you". JMVHO, of course.

Dr. Phil is downright mean. I'm in the psychotherapy business, and believe me most of us think he's just a horrible. People have problem and gosh sometimes people can't "just get over it." He's a bit of a glory hound voyeur.

Folksong,
I'm SO with you. I find Oprah to be an incredibly irritating, arrogant woman with a holier than thou attitude about everything. I avoid watching her show, but tuned in recently when the Hilton sisters were on. She acted as though she had twelve cents in her bank account, asking them in wonderment what it felt like to be wealthy. Like I said in a post on the VIP board, the wording of the question itself on her site is jaw-dropping. Yes, we should all write, but as someone already said, I'm absolutely convinced that she'll either ignore our side, or we'll get a minute max, and one with a raised eyebrow at that.

As I read on another board, the woman in question who is going to be on Oprah will have all of 25 days "clean" by the time she appears. I'm sorry, this gets on my nerves. While I admire her admitting her addiction and trying to do something about it, 25 days is not very long at all. You might not even be past the full blown withdrawal symptoms by then (depression, etc.) If Oprah wants someone in recovery to speak on addiction to opiates, I believe she should find someone with some serious clean time under their belt and some perspective on addiction, not just someone who will complain about how evil online pharmacies made her addicted. Yeah, right. (sorry about the sarcasm, but I can't stand really newly sober people spouting off like they know everything there is to know about addiction, and how they would NEVER let themselves get into that again. Face it, this woman is still at risk, big risk for relapse.
And, oh, btw, I fully agree that Oprah needs to give equal time to chronic pain patients in this country, and what we have to do to get some small amount of relief.

Oprahs food addiction is just as bad a drug addiction. Both can kill or make you very unhealthy. If I have to watch another Oprah diet show about herself I'm shooting my TV. She is so full of herself and thinks she's Gods gift to all. All her shows are fixed and controlled. Oh yes, the great world of Oprah Winfrey and her billions. Too bad the rest of us have to really work for a living and experience extreme stress and other health ailments and work injurys while she sits on a couch interviewing people about how great life is, her 75 million dollar mansion, never married, and Sargeant Phil. These people make me sick to my stomach.
Oh yeah and the Rush Limbaugh thing..When you have the money, get your housekeeper to supply you with drugs from the black market, she gets caught admitting it while she will most likely end up in prison and Rush will get off..Welcome to the wonderful world of the rich and what they want and can get away with..
And welcome to the wonderful world of where doctors can no longer treat pain for fear of having their licenses to practice revoked and them possibly serving jailtime for getting their patients hooked on drugs. This world gets worse with each passing day.

Gee...thanks for the cheerful pep-talk.
Just because these people made themselves rich, inheirited money, won the lotto, or got lucky, doesn't make them any less human than you or me. It also doesn't mean they aren't subjected to harsh legal penalties in cases of wrong-doing. I've had it up to my eyeballs with people using class-warfare, racism, Bush, Ashcroft, as an excuse for the miserable state of their lives. Look in the mirror for God sakes!!

I posted this on the VIP side so I might as well post it here and this is not to p.o. any Oprah fans, just MHO. You couldn't pay me to watch! It's scary enough to think we may be losing our OPs someday with or without the help of Oprah. Now, if the show was live and took calls, that may be a different situation because we CPers could flood them with calls. But, since it's not, I'm just going to kick back and watch the kind and caring Judge Judy instead.

Why would someone even consider watching Orka Winfrey? If I have enough time on my hands to do that, I'll go clean something instead.

I know the ignorant kiss up butthead MEANT well but I still maintain that she's a money grubbing troll.
Ophrah can line up to kiss my little round fanny, sanctimonious wanker!
not that it matters much but I did loose a lot of respect for her on this show. wench! did anyone else notice that she sort of looked down upon her guests (victims is more like it)?
and all those moronic whining twits who want to misplace thier blame? --on addictions they caused themselves? Yeah lets blmae the doctors, the internet, ANYONE but ourselves, OH NO *that* would be just a bit too honest for them wouldn't it? What swines! oh cry me a river - whatever make them feel guiltless uttering an imbecilic load of waffle!
That show may do a lot of good for some ignorant knuckle-head who has the brain capacity of a rodent, those that supposedly had no idea what they were getting into [rolls eyes] WELL - *the rest of us with more than two communicating brain cells* - don't need the bad publicity on these matters , matters that are making life much harder for those who have legit reason for taking such meds --- most who really NEED these don't become the classic addict that the media assumes we will become- you kno what they say about assumptions . This show is meant for those who have their heads firmly planted up their anuses. Give me a break! stupid media!

I'd like to see a show where the "other half" can share their struggles in getting doctors to listen to us and give us REAL and ADEQUATE pain relief - - - and NOT brushed off without any relief because of their auotmatically *assuming* we are one of those buttfaced wankers who seeks medications for falsified reasons.
If there is ANY justice in this sick world - These people should be a classic case of karma - (as vindictive as it sounds... I hope ...) thye get cancer and then be turned away from decent pain releif; because of this new found BS about "oh be careful who gets pain killers! don't want any addicts out there" ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [livid emoticon here] - (DB you ever going to add those emotioncs I suggested a while back? it seemed a lot of members liked the idea - still no free VIP membership like it was suggested .) those emotions are helpful in expressing things in thie medium.
(back on topic now) ...
Boy do I get sick of being assumed to be some "faker" or "seeker" by these "Medical professionals" (I use this term lightly) when I ask for some help in living a "normal" life!!! I get that placating glare where I am about to be denied under HALF of the pain relief I NEED. Doctors are nothing more than sadistic paranoid snobs at best (in most circumstances)
I'll quit here of I'll end up more pissed than I already am.
such is life as a chronic pain patient - people screw ya every chance they get.
[insert every foul mouthed word you can think of right here]

someone cross their fingers for me, I am at the end of my rapidly fraying rope! I need help BAD and haven't the money to pay for what I need online OP's are becoming more and more of a rip off, and worse yet, more and more of a risk!
--- and apologies for the way this post turned out I know I am full of negativity (something I abhor) daaaaaamnit I just want a "normal" life and there are far too many obstacles in my way,
DB memmbers - you have been for me
Thanks for reading if you made it this far
crossing fingers for a miracle!

Maybe Oprah should do some shows about self-important, food addicted, lipo-suckted, neuveau-riche, self-righteous, media junkies. Ooooops! That would hit too close to home.
The only reason why it only takes one television screen to watch her is that she has the best cosmetic surgeons in the world. Can we say nip and tuck?
