Flaming/Flame Wars
Flaming is reacting to someone's board posting or PM in a hostile manner by publicly chastising the person or bombarding the person with nasty posts or PM's. Flaming may occur to users that engage in behavior that violates what is considered proper board netiquette. A flame war occurs when two or more users flame each other in an escalating manner that threatens to continue unabated. If you notice a flame war developing just notify the moderator or adminitrator and let them handle it. Do not take part in flame wars. If you do you will be banned even if you did not start it :-)

I remember once reading a study about opiate withdrawal and that methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) had been given to some opiate dependent people to relieve the effects of withdrawal and that some of these test subjects reported no symptoms of withdrawal at all. The unbelievable part about the study was that the subjects used were all heroin addicts of 10+ years.
I personally have a hard time believing the results of this study. I mean, I understand MSM is used to relieve body aches and nausea (both symptoms of opiate withdrawal), but I have a hard time believing that it would be so effective as to totally eliminate all traces of opiate withdrawal. If it was truly so effective, I don't think heroin addiction would be such a problem. As long as you had your MSM you could kick the habit anytime you wanted, never go through the hell of withdrawal, and then start up your habit again if you felt the need to.
So has anyone else heard a similar thing about MSM or even used it to treat opiate withdrawal? Does it really get rid of ALL symptoms of withdrawal, physical and mental (including the dreaded withdrawal depression)?
Is MSM something that must be prescribed, or can you get it at a store or on the internet? Well, I guess I could do a search for myself. Thanks for the heads up on it, though. I will be interested to learn more about MSM.
I take MSM on a regular basis, and I've never experienced any decreased withdrawal symptoms that happen when I cease taking my medications. Perhaps you have to take huge doses? I hear that you can take infinite amounts of MSM and not overdose.

It's a non-prescription herbal supplement. You can find it at your marketplace and a lot of people seem to take it for arthritis.

Hmmm...interesting. Thanks for your input. But I don't know how much the people in the study took. I think it was between 3-10 grams of the stuff if I remember right but since I can't find the article (it was originally posted on some forum I used to be on) I really don't know for sure.
You're right about not being able to overdose on MSM. It's a natural chemical your body produces (or something like that) and having excess amounts won't kill you. In 12 hours your body will just naturally get rid of the excess amounts that were not used up.
