I find when I take any benzo my memory suffers. I forget things, I tell people the same stories two or three times and cannot remember telling them the first time! These are not big doses I am taking - 6mg bromazepam, 10mg valium etc. once or twice a day. It's becoming a bit of an issue to be honest. I need the benzo for anxiety, But I don't want people to think I'm a fool with a bad memory! Are there any vitamins or supplements which might help? I never feel "zonked" on the benzo, just normal. If I reduce the dose, the anxiety becomes worse. Is there a solution for this or is it just an unwanted side effect to taking benzos?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Yeah, there's a really good supplement. If only I could remember what it was...

If I were you, I would just call a pharmacist. They don't usually ask who you are. I've taken benzos for a while and haven't experienced this, although my neurontin causes me to do things like forget words, which is bad as I'm an editor. Make some calls, or go to the manufacturer's Web site and see if that's a side effect.

OK, I'm sorry about the earlier post. I really couldn't stop myself.
There are quite a few supplements being sold as memory boosters. I'm not sure that any of them work. None of the ones I tried made any difference, and I have heard of tests done with some of the others that didn't work very well. So I recommend saving your money.
I haven't taken benzos, but I have taken other meds that affected my memory. Hydro can and anti-depressants are notorious for dulling concentration and memory. Instead of looking for something to counteract the benzos at this point I recommend trying to find another med that will treat your anxiety and not affect your memory so much. I notice that you list 2 different benzos. Do you need to take them both? Have you tried others? Have you mentioned this to your doc or pharmacist?

Neither my doc or pharmacist know - my employer has full access to my medical records, and anxiety would put me out of a job! I don't take them all the same time, or at once -just as suits. Would vitamin B be any help?

Sheenafur gave some good advice. You might try that. You might want to try different meds for the anxiety to see if something else would work without that side effect.
Taking vitamin B and other supps won't hurt but I doubt that they will prevent the memory problem as a result of a med. You can try and vit B won't lighten your pocket book too much.

I can't verify whether this is true or not, but Gingko Biloba is supposed to help with memory, especially occasionaly mild memory problems. "Gingko also possesses antioxidant properties that may help neutralize cell damaging free radicals. Studies have shown that oxidative stress caused by free radicals may contribute to aging". (taken from the back of my Ginkgo Biloba bottle - it says right on the front that it's supposed to 'nutrionally support metal alertness').

I totally agree with Antique on this one, too.

Many benzos cause amnesia in some people or what you might describe as memory problems. Usually the shorter acting ones... like Halcion. I imagine in larger doses this is exacerbated.
I believe some people are more affected than others.
Versed is used pre-op and I think during surgery precisely because of its amnesia like properties.
You might find a longer acting drug works better? Or a lower dose?

what about xanax? I've found that it doesnt effect my memory as much as diazepam? But I only take benzos before bed.
