Caffeine?
As in Vivarin?
Or a lower dose of methadone if the drowsiness is too overwhelming?

I had same problem on high-dose methadone. Caffeine didn't cut it. Amphetamines would be counter-productive and possibly dangerous.

The only real answer is reduction in methadone dose, sorry to say. I stopped nodding at 50mgs, whereas I would fall asleep on my feet at 100mgs.

Good luck!

I have to agree with Nightshade. Cut your dose down. The lower the better. Try different dossages. You don't want to stay on a high dose for too long. The half life of methadone is like a decade!!!!! Very difficult to get off. I personally wouldn't recommend for pain management. Lots of other meds out there for pain control. Getting off that stuff is shear hell.
Good luck to you.

I agree 100% with the others here. I'd suggest cutting down on your methadone dose. Have you tried taking naproxen or ibuprofen with food along with your methadone, if you don't have a history of stomach problems with NSAIDs? You could have some very effective pain control with some kind of NSAID on board.

And the above poster is correct in that methadone is not the best thing to be on. It can be the most hellish narcotic to kick... not trying to scare you, but be prepared.
