Hi everyone!
Thanks to all who posted on my other headache thread. I started this one to tell you all that this has been day 1+ since no Hydro, I took the last yesterday morning.
Today has not been a fun one to say the least! I feel like I have been run over by a truck. Did not go to work today, no way, no how was I going to deal with them. I had every intention of going in, got ready and took kids to school but 1 daughter complained of bad stomachache and so I stayed home with her, I could have gone into work around 11am when hubby returned but by then, I could not. I have Stadol NS and I used that & cracked a 10mg Valium in half and took that. Took a few hour nap. I did eat eggs for breakfast before this. It is now 6pm and I feel okay but just not myself. I already called myself in sick for tomorrow because I don't know how I am going to feel. I said there may be a possiblity that I may make it in. I only work 5 hrs tomorrow & I'd like to go in just to keep myself busy. After my nap all I did was lay on the couch under the cover and watched the news about the fires in CA. I am going to eat a roast that I made right now to get something in my stomache and get back on the couch, I am taking a Valium tonight because I have to sleep and that RLS is horrible. I don't know if I am going to take 5 or 10mgs of Valium. I only have 2 or 3 10mgs tabs left and I was holding on to them just for this purpose.
I see the Neuro this Friday. All the meds he has me taking have not helped w/the headaches. Topamax,Naprosyn,Wellbutrin. The Stadol NS is the only thing working now and I think I have one spray left in that bottle. So this is gonna be a ROUGH week here for me. I will keep you posted and thanks for everyone who told me what they take for their headaches, I wrote everything down and the Neuro will be hearing about them from me on Friday.
Thanks for all your support and I will post my progess tomorrow.

Hi,
I too, am trying to kick hydro for my migraines. Been self medicating way too much lately.
I wanted to let you know that my doc prescribed me atacand
(I do believe it's a high blood pressure med?) and it's helped with my headaches, but I've taken hydro for so long, I know it's a habit now. Just thought I'd share in case this med can work for you.
Best of luck!

Day 2 - Doing better today, didn't go to work, don't feel like doing much of anything. I could go to work but I know that I would have tons to do and the stress from it all it gonna bring on a migraine and I don't see the Neuro till Friday and I am out of Stadol. I don't feel cold or hot, just don't feel like doing anything right now. Will check back later. Thanks for your posts.

I have always found that days 1-3 were the worst. If I could make it to day 4, the biggest part of the battle was over. Take plenty of vitamins (B and C especially), drink lots of water, stay busy, and force yourself to eat. The only thing that really got me down after the first week was insomnia. I was feeling really good (nerve receptors were getting themselves back to normal) and couldn't sleep at night. That to goes away after a week or so.
Keep going!

Withdrawal related question:
I have read several times of people taking Immodium during withdrawal from narcotics. In anticipation of possibly tapering to a holiday, is this just regular Immodium A/D?
Is it to control a not so pleasant side effect (the runs) OR is there some other purpose for taking it? (e.g. perhaps something in it that helps relax you or controls RLS or does something other than just help with the runs.)
thanks

It is regular Immodium. I will explain it in the terms I understand and hope I don't screw it up. If I do, I'm sure someone will correct it. Apparently, the active ingrediant in Immodium is, just barely, an opiate that does not cross the blood-brain barrier. Meaning it helps those opiate receptors in your brain that want the opiates that they are used to, but you get no pain relief or any type of euphoric feeling. But, it does require a very hefty dose to work. And if you take mega doses of Immodium, watch out for serious constipation problems. I have tried it once, when a refill was late being delivered, and I believe it really helped with the RLS feelings I get with withdrawl. I hope I have explained it at least somewhat close to correct.

Immodium is for the runs. It does not cross the blood brain barrier.
There are a few on this board that cite studies that Immodium suppressed withdrawal in monkies. HOWEVER, the dosage used was 60-90 mg.
That is 30-45 pills!!! And excuse me, but I am not a monkey.

I took 75 mg immodium AD (25 mg three times a day) a day for 3 days on a recent holiday. I was up to 16 norcos a day before doing this and had been for about 2-3 months. With the immodium, I felt no physical withdrawals - it was the most amazing thing in the world. I swear by it, but yes - it is a lot of little pills to take. Still, I will do it again in a heartbeat if I need to.

Hi Purple--
Just want you to know that there are many of us out here that have lived through similar experiences as what you are going through right now. It is pretty rough but there are some other things out there that may be of help to you.
When I went off of my meds (much more stuff than you were taking, and sadly, much stronger. MS Contin, Percocet, etc) I got really sick. I ended up just dumping everything down the toilet one night so I did not even have an opportunity to taper off.
When my husband took me to my doctor and I told her all of this she was really cool. I am still surprised that I made it to the doctor at all!! I mean I could barely move without feeling like I had just been run over by a truck. I seriously could not even brush my hair becuase the nerve endings on my scalp even hurt. From the top of my head to my toes were in complete pain. I just wanted to lay in bed and die. I was throwing up, going through horrible night sweats, had a headache, stomach ache, went from being constipated from all of the meds to the exact opposite ...if you catch my drift. I would go from being really hot and drenched in my own sweat, to having the heat on almost 90 degrees and lying there with an electric blanket, totally shivering.
It was awful. It seems as though these past few days have been bad for you, but luckily you are able to move a bit. Anyway back to my doctors visit that day. Well she decided to put me on methadone and clonidine, as well as celexa (but she suggested I not start the celexa for a few days). Oh ya, and she also gave me a few xanax's to help with the anxiety involved with the withdrawl.
I also had some ultram at home that helped and some fioricet that I had used for headaches in the past. I had some w/codeine and some without. I know that if you want to stay off of the narcotics then you might want to try the fioricet without codeine. It may really help if you get another terrible headache while you are going off of the lortab.
As for the other meds I went on, well immediately after taking the methadone and clonidine I felt almost normal again. It seemed impossible to me that I actually was able to sit up and move around after only about 40 minutes after taking the meds.
I know that going on methadone is not something most people should do, but in my case I was still in such extreme back pain as well as the withdrawl that it seemed like a good decision. However, if you are able to get some clonidine then I think you would feel much better. It is a blood pressure medicine that is frequently used for withdrawl symptoms. It really helps regulating your body temperature when you are going through withdrawls.
After taking it I stopped sweating almost immediately and was able to get up and take a shower. Which until that moment, and for 4 days after going off of my meds, I was not able to even go pee without wanting to die let alone trying to take a shower. Besides I was either shivering to the point where my teeth hurt from chattering so much, and my stomach hurt from the chills (it felt like i had done 1 million crunches) that getting into a shower was pretty much an impossible task. But once my body temperature got regulated I was able to take that shower. It felt wonderful.
Then my body aches diminished down to nothing. I even thought I may be able to go grocery shopping that night (when before that my husband pretty much had to drag me to that drs appt)
I believe you can find Clonidine online at different places and that it is not too expensive, but even if it was expensive I to this day, would never hesitate getting it if I ever went through a situation such as withdrwal once again.
Then w/ Ultram. That helped w/my back pain and headaches. That can be found online as well. Also, Fioricet and possibly xanax can be found online (but you said you had some valium left, so try not to rely on taking to many of the xanax or valium because you can go through withdrawls after going off of them as well)
Well I hope this info helped you. Good luck with this and stay strong!! If you are having trouble sleeping at all maybe you should try some over the counter sleeping aids such as Unisom or something. The more sleep you can get right now, the better you will feel. Sleep allows your body to heal itself naturaly. Unfortunately I could not sleep at all during the withdrawls. Even with the methadone in me.
Take care and if you need to talk with anyone about this, I am here for you!

No - I didn't have a problem with constipation - even from taking so much. I did drink a LOT of water and tried to eat regularly and healthily. The immodium trick is one of THE greatest things I've learned on this board. Happy Halloween to all!
