Xanax & Valium Cross Tolerance

Does anyone know if Xanax and Valium have a cross tolerance?

For about a year I took 10mg of Valium a night and it would always put me to sleep. Well for the last 6 months I’ve been taking .75 to 1mg of Xanax but as everyone knows it has a shorter half life than Valium so I'm wide a wake come 3am.

So I decided to go back to the Valium took 10mg and no sleep for me. I could definitely feel it working but I couldn’t fall asleep. Ended up halving to take .5mg of Xanax.

So my question is can you build up tolerance to either drug by taking the other? Isn't 10mg of Valium comparison to 1mg of Xanax?

Also in the above example quality is most likely not an issue because all meds were obtained from my local drugstore. And yes I do have insomnia, its hereditary always had it, and I do have anxiety.
