Ok so I have read the post regarding liver damage and the APAP in tylenol 3 etc..
How bad is it to have a few beers and take a tylenol #3 ?
Is this a real bad mix ?

Ok, well thats tough. I usually do my weight lifting at night, then eat my dinner, then if any of my muscles are sore I take a tylenol 3 for the pain. Then later I'll have a few brews and watch the tube. Is that really that bad?
Sorry to sound like a doofus but I was hoping that a few beers wouldn't be that bad.

It's highly inadvisable. Sorry, I know that's not what you wanted to hear.

Any amount of alcohol mixed with APAP is NOT SAFE.
Doesn't matter if you are taking/drinking a little or a lot -
You are seriously risking liver damage by combining these two poisons in ANY amount.
(Alcohol destroys Glutathione in your liver (the chemical in the liver responsible for breaking down Toxins such as those in APAP - So when you drink Alcohol - you are essentially destroying the 'force field' that is natural to your liver - Therefore, you have a lower amount of Glutathione in your system, which means when you take APAP you do not have the proper chemicals to break down the toxins contained in the APAP. Very dangerous)

Example for you: (this is a true story)
I have a friend that works as a nurse.....
This story is absolutely true and I must say truly frightening as well:
He told me a story of a patient at the hospital he works at, that went as follows:
This person went on a small drinking binge one night.... (a 6-pack of beer or somewhere around that amount - not a whole lot, but not very little either)-
He was NOT mixing any APAP containing medication with the beer, on the night that he was drinking.
He woke up the next morning with a terrible hangover - decided to take 6 extra strength tylenols (!) to cure the headache/hangover problems...... (That is 3g of APAP) - Which would be the same amount of APAP present in 6 Vicodins.
This person suffered acute liver hepatoxicity, went to the hospital, and is now awaiting a liver transplant. He destroyed his liver with only a one-night drinking binge followed by 3g of APAP the next morning. It is THAT serious. And I have no reason to not believe the source this came from as it is a good friend.
This is proof that it does NOT require an INSANE amount of either alcohol or APAP to do massive damage to the liver. Of course, this person could have already had a damaged liver - but still - only a one night drinking binge and 3g of APAP and he completely shot his liver??! That is too scary for me. BE CAREFUL.
P.S [This story is NOT a scare-tactic it is absolutely true.]

I don't this can be talked about often enough. Very few people consider tylenol to be dangerous, even by itself, but it is. Combined with alcohol it's really bad news.
For once it's not the opiate/opioid that's to blame.

I try to always keep a bottle of Tramadol around, to rotate with my hydro/apap (to control my use of hydro and also as a 'just incase' for when I accidentally run into 'un-planned holidays'
Whenever I think I may be drinking that night ( a party is happening, friends getting together, going out on the town, etc) - When I think I may drink - I avoid Hydro/APAP all day that day, and switch to Tramadol. Now, I am sure that it is not 100% safe to drink alcohol while on Tramadol - but it HAS to be at least a bit safer than mixing alchohol with APAP. Just a suggestion that you may want to consider.
edit: clicked on wrong username, this was meant for original poster

Well thanks everyone for you're replies. I spoke with my Primary and asked some of these questions, he agreed it is definatly not good but that the tylenol/codene I am taking is 300mg APAP which is not a lot and if thats all then a few drink is not bad as long as I don't go overboard. He did stress to eat and not take it on an empty stomach. I think if I moderate it I will be ok and its not long term considering I am stopping using Tylenol/codene after my script runs out (about a month). If I am in pain I will either deal with it or take an asprin. But gotta have my beers for football.
