Have any of you heard about or tried guaifenesen therapy for fibro? I'm considering trying it. Any advice?
Here's a link for those who are interested:

Hey antique
I frequent a fibro board on aol occasionally. A while back there were quite a few things written on there about this (guaifenesen). To be honest, I didn't read alot of them, but I did notice there were more negative than positive though. Just thought I would let ya know if ya care to go there and read some other fibro sufferers opnions on guif. I don't have a link(cause I don't know how to do it) but it is just WebM.D. on aol and ya type in fibromyalgia. I don't go there to often anymore as I am such an addict here at DB and have a hard time breaking away from here to take the time to visit over there. Also, some of those gals on some of those boards can just be too much sometimes. Very catty and clique-ish. ANd if ya don't walk the walk and talk the talk they don't want ya around. But... sometimes you can get some good info. They are not all like that.

My best friend suffers tremendously from fibro and her doctor did try her on high doses of the guaf. She too had problems with the doses that she was taking, and got very little relief, if any, from it, but I think that it may be helpful for a few. You may want to ask your doctor about it and see what the consensus is from some of the fibro experts.
It seems that some of these treatments are hit and miss with many patients.

I have heard of this treatment also, I read an article about it when it was pretty new and there were high hopes for it. Like Chevygal, I have heard more negative than positive about it - but what doesn't work for one person might work for you - I'll literally try anything!!! I talked to my doctor at the time about it and she totally poo-pooed it. This was back when she was telling me I looked too healthy to have fibro but I did ask her what she thought of the drug as a treatment for fibro as she has a lot of fibro patients. Let us know if you try and what you think about it. Also, have heard some people get some relief with the Sam E.

I want to give it a try. I'm fighting a virus right now, so it probably wouldn't be a good idea to do it now. What I read said that your symptoms get much worse initially during the treatment. Did the negative things you heard have to do with feeling bad during the therapy? Did people feel bad for a long time? Never seem to get better? Or did nothing happen?
I appreciate yall sharing your research with me. I haven't gotten involved in any other boards because they're too addicting!!! Between my participation on this board and the extra research on the net that I do occassionally, I work, sleep, and eat and that's about it!
It's been well worth it though for the info and the companionship.
I have been suffering a great deal lately with issues that I know yall can totally relate to.
I just erased the rest of what I had written here. It turned into an angry 3-page rant about the frustration that IS my life right now. I'm going to spare you except to share with you a visual that I'm sure you'll find satisfying at some level. By the end of my 3-page rant, it hit a climax with me choking the life out of an ignorant yet arrogant, gas-bag of a doctor and a sorry excuse for a human being. Well, he DID tell me that stress was causing all my problems and that I needed to find a way to relieve the stress. I don't think he realized that my idea of relieving stress at that moment was to feel my bare hands choke the life out of him.
