I wanted to post this to see if this has ever happened to anyone else. Yesterday I was expecting a COD order from Fed Ex, of course I was prepared with money order in hand. However, I received a phone call from the local Fed Ex hub telling me I had a COD order coming from XXXXX and needed to have a money order or cashier check available. I live out in the county and my first thought is that they were just giving me a polite "heads-up" but the more I got to thinking about it I thought it was kind of weird. Thoughts or similar experiences anyone?

Hey
Never had that happen, but since this happened to you yesterday, was your order delivered with out any incident? Was everything normal or as usual? Just curious legitimate.

I think I'm getting paranoid in my old age. First of all, this order was from a new OP that I tried and the name of the pharmacy that had to be put on the money order, which the lady stated in her phone call, was....well.....very obvious what it was.
Anyway, to answer your question the delivery went fine but the driver actually sat in his truck for about 5 minutes after he got back in? I was watching out the peep hole and thinking what is he doing?? I dunno, probably just paranoia going on here.

Not to worry. It's happened to us too. Not for the same reason, but they said it was just to verify our apt. number. It's was for a golf club for my bf anyway, so I really wasn't worried, but I just wanted to let you know that they *do* call sometimes. I'm glad everything went okay for ya!

I know that FedX sometimes calls business's before they deliver when an order is COD. This avoids any re-delivery issues if COD is not available at a first delivery attempt. Given your remote location, doesn't sound that odd to me. And for the driver sitting in the truck, my guess would be filling out the fulfillment paperwork for a COD order. All JMO.

Thanks for the reassurance everybody. I think all this stuff in the media, etc. is just making me extremely nervous and paranoid these days.

Yes, I've had them call before to advise me of the COD amount to have ready. I took it as a 'Courtesy Call' but it was probably more to help them like said above, so they don't have to re-deliver. At the time I lived waaay out from the Big City. Reckon FedEx didn't want to make that long trip twice.

I get a call every time I have a delivery notifying me of the COD amount and that the pkg. is arriving. It's a courteous thing. Just good business by FedEX. They deliver, they don't care what's in it.

i was expecting a package from Fed Ex last Thursday, I was sitting in a local restaurant having lunch with my son and husband on Wednesday when my cell rang and it was my usual Fed Ex guy! He said he had my package and he would just leave it if I wanted ( i have an outer door that is unlocked. To say i was surprised is an understatement, pretty sure he knows what's in the package. How the heck did he have my number? do the OP's give it to them? I mean I talk to him but we are not that close!

I work for UPS and the reason we do this is to avoid any delay. If you live out in the country and they drive all the way out there and you're not prepared it's a wasted trip, which cost alot of fuel and they will have to re-deliver which cost more time and money. The guy was in his truck entering all the information for the COD package into his board( we actually have to key the info in manually on COD's ) which takes a few minutes.Drivers make alot of money, and they are under alot of pressure because alot of businesses close at 5 -6 pm and they have to be there for pick-ups after all the deliveries have been made.Believe me, drivers hate COD's because they have to wait for someone to write a check at businesses that have an account. If they miss a pick-up because they are delayed from someone lollygagging around they get their butt chewed out from the boss and also the business that closed before they got there. It's not fun when that happens!!! I hope this sets your mind at ease. Believe me, we don't care if it's drugs ,guns, whatever, more packages means more GOOD PAYING JOBS, and I'd hate to see OP's go, cuz that's ALOT of packages EVERY DAY!!!!!! Keep on ordering!!!!
Take care KO

It's a standard thing. They don't want to send the truck out there to find you empty handed, that's all. I received just such a call when I purchased Borland C++ (a programming language) via COD about ten years ago.

Hey Kew...
Thanks for that information, you crack me up....
We don't care if it's guns, drugs.... etc....
Without it, you wouldn't have a job!!!
But that's sad that the drivers get chewed out cause a business closes, that makes the drivers have to go faster, and that's not safe... kinda like when Dominoes was blaming the pizza delivery drivers for not getting it to people within the 30 minutes, then the pizza would come out of their pay, which made them have to drive faster!!! It works alot like that, and it's not fair....
I have alot of respect for FedEx and UPS drivers, they do alot of work, and alot of lifting!!! (and they are like my little Santa Clause)
I like the idea of having someone from UPS in here, easing our minds, I also watch for the delivery truck, and I watch it, and I've seen the driver in there doing stuff, and I start trippin' out, getting all paranoid, thinking, Uh Oh, they are calling the feds!!! And any minute now, a bunch of un-marked white cars are gonna pull up and they are gonna arrest me!!!! Not
But everyone needs to put this thought into their heads..... with ebay, and amazon, and the thousands of other internet shopping stuff out there.... I just tell them it's my candles or earrings or something of that size.
I've even seen one driver shaking my package as she was walking to the door.... my eyes about popped out of my head, I just signed for it, and never said a word, and when she left, I shook it to see if you could hear anything, and you could, it rattled, oh well, of all the things that are shipped out in this country, you gotta think of how many of them rattle!!
Ordering from an OP makes me nervous everytime!!!! And you just gotta keep telling yourself that your just paranoid.
But Thanks Kew for coming in and letting us know stuff about UPS and how it works... that's one thing we've never had in here, we've had reps from OPs but never one from FedEx or UPS!!

You know I get the vast majority of my meds from a mail order pharmacy through my insurance. They usually send the meds thru US Mail, but sometimes by Fedex if they are shipping late or if the customer. Anyway, they never take measures to mask what's being shipped. Everything rattles and you can feel the outline of the bottles. Plus the label makes it clear that it's from a pharmacy, so I am wondering how big of a deal it is that people can tell that there are meds in the package. It makes it easier for someone to pick out packages to steal if they're looking for meds, but I'm not sure that it raises flags unless you get a lot of deliveries of meds. What do yall think?

I don't think so either. Like you said, many mail order pharmacies send meds to people with scripts. Besides, how do the FedEx/UPS drivers have a clue what kind of meds they are? They don't, and probably could care less for the most part. After having said all that, it makes me nervous to go to FedEx to get my packages although the lady in there has gotten friendlier the more I come, hmmm..Maybe she's happy about all that increased business, ha! She doesn't even make me show ID and half the time she sees me walking across the parking lot and has the package on the counter when I get in there. Now that's service.
Seriously though, I wonder how much business FedEx and UPS would lose if every single OP went out of business today? They deliver A LOT of meds.

He He, this is a little off topic, but once I was sending a guitar through UPS and noticed they had signs all over the place saying how you couldn't ship anything breakable through them. No pottery, glassware ect. I said something about it to the UPS driver and he said pretty much the same thing: "yeah you can send drugs, guns, and bombs; just don't try to send a coffee cup!" ..... cracked me up and just thought I'd share it with ya.

I agree ghost - there are so many places that people with insurance use to order 3 month supplies of non-controlled drugs through the mail that it is very difficult to tell if you are getting hydro, viagra, or lipitor as a fed ex delivery man. Plus the fact the packages are all scanned would make it suspicious if a number seem to make it to a certain driver's truck and fall off the back over the course of a few weeks.
I'm not worried, although I do wish they wouldn't put a return address on the Fed Ex/UPS/USPS label with the pharmacy name and word "pharmacy". I want to get it in a brown wrapper like porno . No really, I have a doorman and he sees me getting all these pharmacy packages with some from Miami and wonders what the heck I have - he probably thinks I have AIDS or something and he talks to everyone.
I guess this only matters to people living in doorman buildings and most people don't care what the deliveryman thinks. oh well...

It is funny,I had a COD order from Eddie Bauer which I ordered Online -XMas presents for brother in law, and got an automated call from Fedex. It asked is this ****, say yes or no. I said yes. It asked if I had the COD ready, I said yes again, and then then the automated voice said that it is on it's way!
It was weird......and it was not a person, but a machine generated thing.
