OK - Don't laugh at me (ok - go ahead) - I've been around the boards for a little while and keep seeing "Best if kept off the board" used in different posts. Can someone explain what that means please - PM if you feel that is a better way to respond. I've learned alot from this board and the VIP board, but have yet to stumble across exactly what that means. You are all so very helpful and willing to help - I THANK YOU ALL!

It is a mechanical replacement for a word or phrase they want to keep off the board - it's really dumb. Read this with s and $ in same place:

It also means that even tho we want to share all info we can it could be counter productive cuz the DEA and FEDS are all over these boards. They read who is doing what by us hand feeding them critical information that will ultimately lead to the OP being shut down. I have seen alot of great sources come and go during the time I've been on this board. Its the best Board out there , However we also give out the most info to all. So the next time you see that statement it is because they fear that they might be telling too much.

Maybe I'm thick, Brutus, but I don't see any "incriminating" evidence about us or Op's being kept off the board only, things like Best if kept off the board, but not a$$hole. Brain dead censorship by Viacom or Fox or whomever actually owns this site - just like cable TV.

I must be the thick headed one cuz I don't have a clue what you just said.
I dont know where the a$$hole thing fits into the subject.
Is it that one of us is talking board rulz and the other about sensative info.
I've had alot of DB vets and others PM me info that they said they would never put on the board simply cuz its something that could be damaging to an OP or someone else.
Thats kinda what I was talking about.

You're not alone. For a very long time I hadn't a clue what that meant. Then I read a thread that described "Best if kept off the board" as another way to curse or say something against DB rules without saying it.
I think? So maybe I understand it now about 90 percent.

I don't believe the idea behind filtering certain words is/was meant to be censorship but merely a way to keep DB a helpful, polite board that all segments of the population could feel comfortable visiting & reading, unlike, say, the Hive.
Although I've been known to spew four-letter words from time to time, I don't feel its necessary to use those words when writing or responding to a post. If one really wants to let other members know what they think of a particularly bad OP, its just as easy (& fun!) to come up with a "clean" yet harsh insult & alot more amusing to read. Words like a$$holes just lose their punch after awhile anyway.
As always, JMO.
Take care.

Thanks
That is a good question ;-)
When a member posts a bad word, a four letter word for examplw, that bad word is removed and replaced for "best if kept off the board"
It is an automatic thing. Just a filter.
We do not like to see insulting words at our site, not even @#$%, and that is why we filter the ones we can.
Changing words a little to bypass our filters, deliberately posting bad words knowing that we do not want them at the board (like plotinus did ), is considered as very rude and unpolite.
We have another thread about his: click here to see
The default replacement word was "censored" but that did not go well will free speech advocates :-)
Hope this helps .

Just my opinion, no offense to the people at DB who keep this awesome website afloat:
I understand the need for a polite atmosphere, but there are sections of the board that deal with e-mail sources and international "pharmacies" are very questionably legal (if not clearly illegal). Saying a "bad word" (aren't we supposed to be adults here?) seems insignificant in comparison...
I do agree with sonick, though, that if there has to be some kind of bad-word-filter, then it should be "CENSORED" not "best if kept off the board," which becomes confusing in the middle of a sentence.
Maybe I'm alone on this, it just seems funny to me that a website dedicated to showing people how to buy drugs has a problem with cursing.

Drugbuyers is dedicated to helping people buy prescription medications online legally. Cursing doesn't bother me but if it were allowed I can see how it would get out of hand. I noticed somebody over on the VIP board me a post and put *it* at the end of the "f" word - I think DB does a great job of running this board, not an easy thing to do. I'm not scolding you Yawkaw, just making an observation.

The way DB runs this board at a profesional level without the extra colorful words that contribute nothing is the reason that I love coming to this place.
It is comfortable for all and very freindly atmosphere.
Hail to DB for a job well done

I happily admit to being both rude and impolite, although I actually don't curse that much, because it does get boring and loses its emotional impact with repetition. Witness Ozzy Osbourne - its funny for about 90 seconds.
HOWEVER,the substitution I made in this particular case replying to Brutus was done to prove your filter was a simple mechanical filter to remove expletives. It is *NOT* some artificial intelligence agent removing information, which might give away too much detail about an IOP, OP or poster to the DEA/FDA etc. That kind of software agent would be both very valuable and nearly impossible to write give current AI technologies. However, I am available, should DB care to commission such a development effort with real dollars

Also, some doctors have told DB they do not wish for their names to appear on the site, thus another BILOBoard

DB please come up w/better phrase than Best if kept off the board
Censored - Best if kept off the board
Censured like scorn, reprimand
Sensor like our receptors
Senseless like PCP who under-treat, our scorn

hell it would only take 2 or 3 well-crafted regular expressions to take care of 90% of the substitutions and decorum desired here.
I agree with you like you said 99%, and then that last 1% is where we probably differ about my belief that private ownership and a proven track record of not budging is DB's carte blanche to do what they will, while I also see the borg perception as well. It's definetely without doubt that all constructs will have it's critics, perhaps that is part of the area we're in too.
I'm really tired, can you tell ?

It doesn't bother me to have a filter for the bad words. It's true that they aren't necessary and add nothing at all to the conversation. I cuss too Best if kept off the board much anyway. (haha)

Well at least I finally know what Best if kept off the board means, or signifies. It seems pretty funny now that I spent all that time trying to figure out how it fit into so many different sentences

I think it's a strange way to filter a word, it looks confusing, it took me a while to figure it out.
Not that it matters much but can there be an alternative to "Best if kept off the board"????
Say " [word rejected] " or even just the [brackets] around the "Best if kept off board" ( as in: [Best if kept off board] ) auto filter? It would not look as bizarre when implemented.

I might be the only one but i think its fine the way it is now. Because think about it, if someone is swearing on these boards which we all know that doesnt add anything it is literally "Best kept off the boards". Maybe the first post iv ever read threw me off with the now infomus "best kept off the boards" but after you read the post you should be able to come up with what the person was trying to say.
