Hi everyone I have am having a problem trying to find the name of the cough syrup that my husband used last year when he got this stupid broncitis?sp that he has once again! I know that it either had hydrocodone or hydromorphone? in it but I'm not sure which one! He is allergic to codeine so it wasn't the normal that they give to most people. If anyone know the name of both or either of these please respond in post or PM ASAP PLEASE!! We have to go to the doctor in a few hours and I need this info cause this new doc doesn't have his records yet!!!
Thanks in advance,
Kelly

Hmmmm, HYCOMINE® or HYCOMINE®-S will probably do the trick if you need cough syrup. DXM is also a great medicine used for cough suppresion. I'm no doc, but I would not reccommend either of these medicines for chronic bonchitis, but if he's not sick with it often, I suppose it should be ok. Check with yer doc.

I too am allergic to codeine and have suffered pneumonia annually for a few years. My doctor always prescribes cough syrup containing hydrocodone. It would typically be the next thing up from codeine cough syrup for a person suffering from serious coughing.
I would doubt (but have been wrong many times in life, believe it or not! ) that your husband received the dilaudid-containing cough syrup for bronchitis unless there was some other indication for it such as opiate tolerance.
Best wishes!!!

Tussionex is the big new cough syrup on the market. Try to think? Was it incredibly expensive? Do you remember the word "polystrirex" on the packaging/script info/prescription label anywhere? Was it potent enough to last through an entire night's sleep, directed for use up to 3 times a day and no more?
Only one cough syrup on the market fits this description, that it Tussionex, as mentioned above. Unlike regular cough syrups that dose every 4-6 hours, Tussionex contains both immediate and sustained release (that's the "polystirex." Plain dextromethorphan is also available in this format OTC in the US).
If the dosage instructions were less stingy and/or the syrup only stopped the cough for a few hours at a time, it could have been any of the hydrocodone based cough syrups above. AFAIK, immediate-release hydrocodone cough syrup has been on the market a very long time and perfectly suitable generic formulations are available.
