All-day on MSNBC TV
Special Report: White-Collar High
Throughout the day on Monday, MSNBC will provide live reports, in-depth stories, and a panel including medical experts, rehabilitated prescription drug addicts, and legal experts -- all focusing on prescription drug addiction in America.
Yes, guys here is the official blurb. If they take callers or email we need to call and email to present our side.
The side of the chronic pain victim. I am going to try.

Why is all of this happening now?!! Darn that Jack Osbourne and Rush Limbaugh! Now everyone knows. I just wonder if they will cover where these neighbors next to you at work are obtaining these prescription drugs.

The story I saw was the woman that was addicted to Vicodin and had just checked out of rehab. I sure hope all this attention is just like a "fad" and will go away soon - making me very nervous!

If it is any comfort, I do remember a cycle of these stories back when Em started getting popular and had that tattoo on his arm; and Melanie Griffith went in rehab to 'step down' from Norco and so on...
But I started getting worried when Winona Ryder got popped with all that different stuff in her handbag.
Bless her heart, I don't mean this badly, but couldn't she afford a safe?
The whole thing is becoming laughable--not!
You get prescribed Ibu or Celebrex or Vioxx--your stomach gets ripped up, suddenly there is Nexium, and Tagamet and Pepcid AC!
I have read enough posts on different boards not to believe in back surgery- it seems like once you get it, you better get better, cause that is what is supposed to happen.
At this point, I wish I was having fun. Or euphoria. I am just scared.

Pretty - Thank you for making my day - you got a way with words! Hang tight - I think Rush Limbaugh was a real doozy for the press to sink teeth into - you are in my prayers today...

This subject seems to be the current topic of discussion on every new media outlet in America. Yesterday, it was on the Diane Reems show on National Public Radio. Fortunately, Dr. Katz, a pain specialist, talked about the beneficial effects of Oxycontin and other opiates in the treatment of chronic pain. He also went on to talk about the physiological effects of opiates on the chronic pain patients, and how most of these sufferers are able to live a somewhat "normal" life. (whatever that means) He mentioned that most of these patients would trade the drugs anyday for just an inkling of what their lives were like before the injury or illness.
Get your e-mails and letters out, ladies and gentlemen. It's time to go on the offensive with all these "lay folks" who just don't understand the effectiveness of opiate treatment on chronic pain. We cannot wait until the dust settles before we make our case.

Those people are just making things harder for people like us. It makes me sick to sit and listen to people talk about how they need to "do away" with op's all together. It is those people who don't need the pain medicine that are getting caught abusing them and it is making people like us, who really need it, look like the bad guys. Someone needs to really shut their mouths and drop the whole thing or we are all screwed!

Yes Prettyday, you always seem to come up with a laugh for us in spite of all this bad news.
That is some comfort to me, hopefully this will just die down like the other stories did. I have sent a couple of emails hoping to get the other side of the story out but no luck so far. Even the so-called Fair and Balanced Network won't respond to my email. I just saw the story over yet again on our local news this morning. One doctor said that people who are hooked on opiates forget the real pain they are suffering from in the cloud of opiate addiction. Sorry to say it - but we need some kind of big world event to occur to push this story out of the limelight............not wishing bad news or anything, just something to get this story out of the news.

I sent Mr. Dorschner at the Miami Herald an email at and one to Bill O'Reilly at Fox News at or an alternative address for Fox is Also thinking about sending something to the Washington Post to counter their week long series on this issue as well as MSNBC, CNN and local Dallas affiliates. The more emails they receive the better the chance they will cover the story.

It was getting to the point that I didn't even want to read these threads (the ones about OPs being shut down etc.) anymore (no offense to anyone that posts them) I just kept hoping that maybe if I turned a blind eye it would go away. But, I can see that it's not going to happen. So thanks for email addys Legit, and count me in as another one who is going to write to them so that hopefully they can possibly see the other side of the coin. Staying silent definitely won't help those of us in chronic pain. So, my suggestion is... everyone, exercise those painful old typing fingers and WRITE, WRITE WRITE and maybe, just maybe, someone will listen!

I want to do the penny or dollar thing for Dr. Hurwitz.
Get a movement going.
Keep it anon so they can't hurt us yet.
Send a penny in an envelope every day with a message of support or a story, a "testimony" as I think Jeremiah suggested.
You know what would really send a message and be less trouble is a .59 cent money order from Circle K for one cent
or one dollar or other relevant amounts.
WE should start beating the lobbyists at their own game. They don't make their special interest names widely known, why should me?
If just all the people of this site sent in one dollar and one penny for luck and support, another day a penny, another day, a quarter, etc. etc.
We should pick one lawmaker sympathetic to our cause and match the envelopes; one to DR. Hurwitz; one to the lawmaker, with a cc: at the bottom of both so that each organization knows what is going on.
Mail sacks, people.
Legitimate is right too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But I worry about all you guys putting your e-mail addresses out there; until the powers that be are staggering under the weight of our snail mail coin, cash, money orders, etc., I worry that you are opening yourselves up to be the first on a database. Do you all have local doctors who will not be swayed when the AMA & DEA comes calling?
Use anonyomizer e-mail if you can... Send snail mail and then e-mail that you have sent the snail mail.
I am putting my money where my mouth is today, or at least, since I have my hubby on my neck to plan some stuff for him, I will sneak a look for a Dr. Hurwitz defense fund site.

I am talking the every day or every other day or as often as possible routine...
That is not the trait of an addict;---focussed persistence on righting a wrong; yeah, mention that too.
Which lawmakers and candidates do we want to support? please help us in our hour of need....

Who is out there that you think might support our cause? I'll do some research on the Internet. Good idea Prettyday.
Go check out the Partner's Against Pain website, I'm getting ready to post a very interesting piece of material that definitely benefits US.

Jordan, I totally agree with you. I could not bare to read the series from the Washington Post. Too much negativity! All we can do is try, and that's something.

I am new to this forum, but I agree with Legitimate. I will write a reasonable letter to all, explaining the other side of things. Who knows if it will even help, but all we can do is try. I would rather know that I at least tried to fight for my rights as an American, instead of watching my rights get taken away. I suggest you all do the same.

Fly Girl and ALL,
The folks with "the will and the way"...are..AARP!! They have the CLOUT & THE CASH!!! It just hit me,an old guy...they very well may help us a little...they sure have a gigantic memebership...who are basicly ALL in some kind of pain and hopping buses daily for AARP sponsored Canada/Mexico trips...with absolutely ONE PURPOSE..and it IS NOT sightseein' and bingo!!! Think about it folks..we need a few very, very articulate types to make ourselves "known"..as it seems to be reaching "do or die" time...

Hey, that's an excellent idea Limper! My husband lobbied to get pilots armed in the cockpit - guess who was one of their staunchest supporters? The United Senior's Association (a group similar to AARP.) This idea has definite possibilities.

The AARP is hugely influential. What a great idea. I just spent the last hour e-mailing any and everyone I could think of, from my state senators to the editors and reporters of the newspapers who have been reporting on this story to Chris Matthews and Bill O'Reilly. Write, write, write! You don't ever have to mention that you personally use OPs, but with great numbers, maybe we CAN make an impact.
