Hello-
With the cold and flu season coming up I would like, as we all would, to be armed. It seems that ERX is the only place to find Tussionex. I have not tried this med, but many say it is effective. Well now the question. Is there a generic for this med? Is there anyone else that carries this med. at less then the RIP OFF of several hundred dollars for a bottle of cough syrup? Is there any thing as effective without selling the farm? I really think this is a med. that if used as intended would be great for the up and coming season of the hack....hack. PLEASE this is something I just can't seem to find, and any and all help would be greatly appreciated. And as usual PM is always....they keep me company. Sorry lost again, but $200.00+ seems a bit much.
Best Regards

In a pinch, any form of hydro will help with coughing, BUT, tussionex is TIMERELEASED, which means that you will get close to 12 hours of relief. So, if you're like me, someone who wakes up in the middle of the night hacking, it's a fantastic medicine. I can get cough relief from the OTC stuff as well as from codeine, but it only lasts about 5 hours.

This cough syrup is expensive even covered under insurance. I noticed USPharmacy has it for $259 a bottle! Ouch!! It is good stuff though. There are also cough syrups with codeine instead of hydrocodone that work well too and maybe not as expensive.

that is an amazing cough syrup, it helped when nothing else did, took it for 3 dang weeks for this nagging non-productive cough. what an annoyance it was, like having a perpetual feather in the back of your throat.
Tussionex was $100 for a 180 ml bottle (thank GOD for insurance!) that was at Walgreens. I imagine at any OP it would be terribly expensive.
If it were me paying out of pocket, I would take the 10 stinking mg of Hydrocodone and the 8mg Chlorpheniramine (antihistamine) in PILL form and save hundreds of dollars. I imagine it's the same result... if not, Robitussin on the side should help too. JMO though. You can find chlorpheniramine in things like Tylenol allergy sinus but only 2mg I think; but I imagine it's not too hard to get a hold of in larger doses without tylenol in it. Sure those are not the special suspension that makes for longer periods of relief but it's a couple hundred dollar difference (I think) Anyway, I am sure you catch my drift here. Heck there is a Lortab elixir too that is probably far less $ if you want it in suspension, I think it's about half the cost of Tussionex.
Just a few thoughts.
Good luck!
