Hello All,
Okay, here's a question that has me baffled. I want to switch to a more legit OP now that I'm working with a doctor and I actually have medical records. My doctor has prescribed neurontin and 7.5/750 Hydro for me, but doesn't want to prescribe anything more powerful for pain. I, however, don't want to take so much APAP, and if I were to take just the recommended one every four hours, that would be almost 3000 mgs. of APAP in one day. Plus, one 7.5 does about the same for me as a baby aspirin. Now, to the point: When I obtain my records and send them to YOD or YFD, they will obviously see what the doctor has prescribed. Won't they then deny my request for a 10/325 dose? Certainly I won't ask the doc to refill his scrip for me if I am receiving the medication elsewhere. How to deal with that awkward situation?
Any answers/comments?
S.

Why would they deny you the 10/325's? Unless there is something in your records that makes it look like you are CURRENTLY working through your script for 7.5/750's, and would be obviously double dipping, there is no reason for them to deny a change in hydro.
The doctors/medics or whoever does your phone consult will more than likely listen to your request for specific hydro strength and formulation, once they approve you. If they disagree they'll tell you, but it's just common sense to want to cut down on the APAP.
Hope this helps.

I guess I'm just dense and don't get the mechanics. If an OP sees that your doctor is willing to prescribe a medication, do they just sort of over-ride him? Wouldn't they be concerned that I would continue to use the doc's prescription too? (no, no, I won't, I won't!!!) And won't my doc wonder why I miraculously don't need the pain meds anymore?

I'd think they'd certainly be concerned if you have a CURRENT script for the 7.5 hydros....did you have it filled, if not perhaps they'd be willing to prescribe the 10's if you mail them the original script your doc wrote...I don't think they'll have a problem increasing the dose...but if the 7.5 script is currently in effect...they may be unwilling to prescribe until that is expired....jmo

Try talking with your doctor about the pain relief that these are offering. He will understand if you are truly legit that you are suffering and that the medication you are using does not do much more than give you a "baby aspirin buzz." If all else fails, switch doc's and OP should be the next to last resort aside from IOP.

Well okay, I see your point.
Is there a date of the last script your dr gave you on that paper? If so, how many days is that script suppose to last? Fax those records a few days before you are going to run out.
Are you seeing that dr on an ongoing basis? If so, ask him to change the script to percoset or something like that which might help your pain better then 10/325mgs anyway. Tell him you are affraid of tylenol. There are options for him, trust me, I have seen it with my husband who refuses to take too much tylenol, even post operative for a week!

No, there's no continuing scrip--there aren't any refills. The doc just told me to call him if I needed more. And yes, I am working very closely with this doctor. I like him very much, and I want to resolve the condition more than anything else in the world. So, I need him to know that I'm in pain. The thing is, I like Norcos because they actually work, and they don't have too much APAP. I've never tried any other pain med except for Darvocet, which made me feel AWFUL. From my vague recollection, codeine makes me sick, too. Is percocet in the same family as either? MarleysHerb (love the name), there ain't no buzz with either baby aspirin or Norcos. I seem to be made of cast iron. If I'm looking for that, I've got to partake of your namesake's cure
I guess I overthink everything too much--those who have suggested I just talk to the doc are right. I'm just so used to the type of docs who don't understand what it feels like to have burning razor blades inserted into your feet (figuratively, not literally).

Tell the OP that you never filled the script the Dr. gave you because of your Tylenol concern. You would rather have less APAP. Done Deal- Script in hand 2 days later.
