Every once in a while someone will post asking if anybody writes paper scripts that could be taken in to the pharmacy, so insurance could kick in and pay for most of it, and the answer is usually "no, except for bh".
WHY the OP's don't take insurance is a very good question, though. Anybody got an answer?

I've heard of OP's calling in a prescriptions to local pharmacies. Then you could use your insurance card and coverage no problem.
I would think they do not accept insurance themselves due to the fact that it requires a ton of extra work to submit the proper forms, etc. Then they would have to forward your insurance info on to the pharmacy they use and the pharmacy would have the extra work. My guess is that most insurance companies would deny claims submitted for an OP doc's services due to the nature of the beast.
I worked in medical billing for years and know exactly how insurance claims are filed. Unfortunately, most insurers have a "deal" worked out with providers and reimburse at a lower rate than the provider actually charges. Many times, the insurers will deny or delay a claim until "further information" is provided (medical records) and this process can be repeated many times before payment is issued. I used to get a BIG bonus based on a percentage tier of how much I actually got the insurers to pay. It was a rare thing to have 90% or more of our claims paid in full. If the insurer denies the claim for good, the patient then gets billed and more often than not, the account sits for months while the collection process begins. It's an expensive, time consuming process filled with so much BS and red tape that it without a doubt is preclusive for OP's to accept insurance. Life is much simpler (and cheaper) when patients pay cash up front. Sad, but true.
