I started filling in info for consult and came to a section where they want the name and phone # of your PCP. do they contact your PCP?? Why do they want this info??? Can anyone who has used them tell me anything about this?
Thanks a bunch,
Folksong
Most OP's require this info. No, they do not contact them. If you can't remember who they are, just open the phone book and pick one. Or you could put the name and # of your clinic, not the Dr., if you still want to be on the up and up.
Your Dr is not allowed to release any info about you anyway without your express consent, thanks to the new Hippa regulations that went in to effect 14 April 2003.
I've never had a problem with anyone asking about my PCP. But, isnt your PCP the doctor that you always go to when you have the flu or strep throat?? Thats always been when I went to mine. FYI if an OP called my PCP he would know nothing about my spinal injury as I have never been to him for that problem. I went to the ER and was refered out to another doctor.(not my PCP) If I am wrong in this can someone please correct me.

Shane,
I can only speak for myself, but with my insurance, an hmo type, all referrals, etc. have to come from your primary care physician(PCP). My PCP knows everything about my health problems, etc.(except that I sometimes use OP's of course). He is the one who referred me to all specialists that I have seen, i.e.: rheumatologist, urologist, neurologist, et al. I was honest on my online form with his info. Just don't want him to know about the OP useage for obvious reasons. He is rather old-fashioned and would equate OP's with drug dealers. He would not understand the concept. Besides all of that, he is in Iraq. Does this help answer your question??
