HI! my friend has a bottle of 30ct 5/500s that say take every 4 hrs as needed for pain. it does not say when the next fill is available.
doing some quick math i came up with 3 pills per day would make it a 10 day script. 4 pills per day would be a 7 1/2 day supply. & just for fun i figured if you never slept at all you could legally finish the bottle in 3 1/2 days
my question is: when should she be able to get her bottle refilled from the date she picked it up??

24 hours in a day,take every 4 hours,that would mean u could take 6 pills in 24 hours.6x4=24.if u have 30 count u would be out of meds on the 5th day.6x5=32.hope this helps ...

Um, where I went to school, 6x5 = 30 So, I guess the total just depends on what school you went to, eh? LOL j/k with you.

Yes, but do they consider a day 18 hours (you know, because of sleep) or 24?

Uhhh... your friends bottle *should* say how many refills left and until what date. If there are no refills, this was a temporary deal and you'll have to call the doc. to see when/if it can be refilled. I use to get that very same Rx from my primary (HMO) but it was intended to last 30 days. So! What does that tell you? Lol. Good luck!

I guess then if a day is considered by how many hours you sleep, I usually only sleep about 4. That would make my days out to be 20 hour days so one every 4 hours would be 5 a day for me. LMAO!!!! Now that we are ALL TOTALLY confused. I would just wait a week to 10 days and then request the refill.... if there are any. That way you're playing it safe.

You can guaranteed refill it on Day 5. It is possible you could be in pain 24 hours, and be up every 4 hours to take the medicine.
They might let you refill it a tad earlier at a mom-n-pop pharma, though, but if it's at a big chain, they can be stingy about that because they follow state laws to a t. All states would allow you to do it on the fifth day because it's a 5 day supply, even if that's not exactly how your doctor meant for you to use it. The only exception (which is unlikely) to this is if the doctor specified the days supply on the script, in which case you have my sympathies.
Sidenote: Some health insurance companies have their own rules. You can still refill it when state law says you can, it just means insurance won't neccessarily pay for it. Just another of the many examples of how some HMO's abuse their customers.

I had this issue several times. The MD gave me x drug and followin it I had to refill it the phamicist felt it was to early and argued it was for vics 5/500 2 every 4 hours 40 total well the would be a weeks worth I woul not to run otu so they told me (Osco) you may refill a med controlled or other wise 3-5 days (depending oninsurance) I take previcid 1 day 30 day supply the ins. co oked it at 5 days but not at 6 days ( I wanted to get while I just got paid) PRN meds are more touchy they again go by the 24 hour clock 3-5 days is the norm but if it is a 4-5 day supply the phamicist will make you wait until the math works out this is dased on my expirance with the Osco chain
