have UPS Hub pick-up experience?
      #93705 - 08/15/03 05:38 AM

For the second time Woody's has shipped my package to the wrong zip code...I'll have to suffer until Monday unless I can figure out how to get to UPS's hub. Of course, UPS themselves have given me nothing but inaccurate info -- and now I don't really believe a word they say. Have you ever had to chase a package down in this way? ANY insight/advice/tips would be greatly appreciated.

Ive been to both the Fedex and UPS hubs, when I've missed the package (extremely frustrating). Fedex by me really isn't that bad, it's never busy, all you do is show ID, and they hand you the package. UPS has always been busy in my experience, but same deal, bring the infonotice and show your ID, you get it soon.

thanks. at this point I only have an "800" number for UPS. No idea Where the hub is or how to contact them. Because of the wrong zip code I won't get a notice (with hub address) -- the package just won't show up here.

You PM'd me saying UPS fixed it, that's awesome. I just wanted to add for everyone's benefit, if you call Fedex or UPS at their 800 numbers, they will tell you where the hub is and give you directions. Also, if you go to their search feature and search for the nearest location, look for "world hub" or "world service center" or something like that, the nearest one to you is the hub. Call ahead of time and ask when it can be picked up. For Fedex, when I've missed the package, I've had to wait until 5 pm (or maybe 7, i don't quite remember, I usually stand by the door so I don't miss them- like I'm doing a stakeout now or something).

can you believe it? SOMEhow -- perhaps because the previous package went thru the same run-around -- UPS caught the error, corrected the zip and knocked at the door minutes after 9am. I was Stunned & Amazed! Bottom line: no hub, no worries, less pain. My opinion of UPS has spun 180 degrees. Now if only Woody's can correct my zip in their system {finally}...

How wrong was the zip code? If it's at least in your city, UPS will be more than happy to put a hold on it at your hub rather than have it floating around out there. I always have my package sent directly to the local UPS hub and held for me to pick up. One time the pharmacy sent it to a cross between the billing address and the shipping address but UPS figured it out and held it at the hub anyway. Another time I found that the package was being sent to the wrong address, and wrong zip code for that matter, (my home instead of the hub) so I called them early, told them it was going to the wrong address and they had it held for me at the hub without having to go through that "first delivery attempt" deal. So I'd say that in my experience, UPS does a pretty good job. But if in your case Woody's sent it to a very wrong address, don't blame UPS for not being able to straighten it out right away. After all, it's just as big a hassle for them as they have to reroute the package from who knows where to get it to you.

ask them to change it, and get the name of whomever does it. That way, 2 things happen: it gives incentive for them to be sure it's done since you have their name and if it's not done, you can call and report their name.

When in CS, I always took responsibility for fixing things or whatever and gave my name. It's nice tohave a person to rely on to fix things. I neverhad a problem because I always fixed what was wrong. good luck.

I've picked up mine at the Fedex hub a couple of times with NO problems. UPS, however, is one hour away from me and only open for pickups in person from 4pm to 6pm. This is so inconvenient for me. I much prefer Fedex to UPS anyway. About 90% of the time, Fedex has delivered my package a day earlier than the tracking site indicates. Not to mention that, if I happen not to be home, my driver will usually find me around town to deliver my package. IMO Fedex is top-notch.

once ups got the wrong address (right zip code) and I went to the hub. Here they are real good, Ive even called them and arranged a meeting with the driver somewhere on his route to get it right off the truck.....

Hey. For the record, the UPS "worldhub", (where everything goes before it goes to it's final destination) is located in the good ol' Derby City, Louisville, KY., on Grade Ln., I think. Good luck finding the right door, the complex is huge to say the least. Just hope if your package gets stuck there, you don't live too far away, but what the heck, if you do have to go, visit the Louisville Slugger museum and see the giant bat while your there.

Usually if you call the 1-800 number on the yellow slip, they will give you directions how to get to the hub.
