Grizzlypaw;
that is true, but we with chrinic pain conditions still need medical care, and Its worth a try. I am not stopping until I find a doctor who will provide me with the right amount and type of medications that I need. If thats doctor shopping, then so be it, but we have a right to be pain free. I can't afford Op's all the time, but I do need pain meds all of the time. So for those of us who have doctors, I wonder if they knew what lenghts we had to go to get medication, and how well it works for us-they might change their minds about holding back narcotics. Granted, if some knew, they would blacklist us for life. But others might finally see that we are desparate enough to resort to paying 100's of dollars for meds that are worth 1/4 that. If they see that, then they might reconsider what they are putting us through. IF only my doctor could talk to my online physician. I wonder what would happen...something to think about.

you might try switching to a hydrocodone/ibuprophen combo vs the apap....that way you get the antiinflammatory action as well...or add 200mg - 400mg of Aleve every 12 hrs (dang, I can't think of the flippin' generic name...anyone?) with the apap combo (not of course if you go for the ibuprophen combo as aleve and Ibuprophen are same class of drug, both are NSAIDS- Aleve's just little stronger).. I'd also lower the apap to 325 mg/tab...that way you can safely take 2-tabs and if you still really hurting after an hour or so, you could take another....with 750 of apap you're really stuck with taking just one tab at a time, or bye bye liver, so if it were me, I'd lower the apap dosage, and add Aleve. If that doesn't work it may be time to
move up to percocet.

During my consult with Dr. Williams (a very nice and professional doc) he told me to try Aleve as well. He suggested that taking Aleve for 10 days every month would help the hydro work better. I wouldn't say it potentates it, just help manage the pain.

Keterolac works quite well for me in skeletal pain (coccydynia and deterioated neck discs.) However, read about it on rxlist, the warning label says not to be used over 5 days (not 14!), as well as it can cause peptic ulceration/gi bleeding at any time in any population. I try not to take the few pills of it i have laying around...

I believe Aleve is Naproxen? Has anyone else tried Arthrotec for arthritis pain?? It works very well. It's an anti-inflammatory med that is easy on the stomach. I tried to take ibuprophen and it made the made the back of my tongue bleed and everything I drank tasted like iron for hours.

Here's another idea; break out the heating pad and ice pack while you are taking the med and waiting for it to work. Alternate them on the area of pain.
1. It does distract the nerve a tiny bit.
2. You feel like you are doing something about it (empowerment)
3. You are maybe distracting yourself from waiting for relief that unfortunately this med is not as effective in delivering. Perhaps the ice/heat will let the med sneak in there a little more.
4. No shame in it not working. Call the Dr. Let him know.
Good Luck!
