Difference between Propoxyphene and Dextropropoxyp

Hi, Was wondering what the difference between Propoxyphene and Dextropropoxyphene. Which is stronger at the same dosage? Thanks for any info.

Be super careful what you take with Darvon or Darvocet, it can be alot more dangerous than combining something with other pain killers.

I agree with the be careful remark. I believe Darvon is chemically related to Pethidine, aka Meperidine. Unlike most opiates/opioids, both these drugs have a ceiling dose because they are toxic. I think Darvon used to be handed out like candy for a while. Even my doc asked me if I wanted some, even though he was incedibly tight-fisted with the good drugs. As a rule of thumb: the more toxic, the happier they are to prescribe it.

Ok, this is my sometimes faulty memory, so don't bet your life on it:
65mg dextropropoxyphene (proproxyphene hydrochloride)
is equivalent to
100mg propoxyphene (propoxyphene napsylate)

And please do look up the maximum dosage & interactions; they are important.
