Buy Meds ... Bye Bye

Pharmacy linked to Internet sales ordered closed
DES MOINES (AP) — A Dubuque pharmacy's license was suspended by Iowa regulators who allege the drug store was involved in selling drugs from the Virgin Islands over the internet.
The Iowa Board of Pharmacy declared the Union Family Pharmacy an immediate threat to the public. The Dubuque Drug Task Force and federal Drug Enforcement Agency officers took control of Union Family Pharmacy, immediately closing the prescription department.

In court papers filed Friday, the state pharmacy board said Union Family Pharmacy paired with Pharmacom LLC, a company in the U.S. Virgin Islands, to sell prescription drugs — filling more than 4,750 prescriptions — over the Internet.

"This was one of the first U.S.-based pharmacies using a local license to cooperate with a Web site outside the continental U.S. to sell medications," said Kevin Teale, spokesman for the Iowa Department of Public Health.

The moves comes as state and federal regulators are moving more aggressively to stop American citizens from buying foreign prescription drugs. On Thursday, the Department of Justice filed a lawsuit to close down a chain of 85 storefronts that help senior citizen purchase cheaper prescription medicines from Canada.

The pharmacy board said the arrangement allowed people to obtain dangerous and highly addictive drugs without a prescription and without a valid doctor-patient relationship to determine possible harmful effects of the drugs.

Among the drugs dispensed were diazepam, a sedative that can produce hypnotic effects, and hydrocodone, a pain killer, board documents said.

The drugs were dispensed verifying that the drugs were for legitimate medical reasons and without proper record keeping, the documents said.

Visitors to the Web site http://www.buymeds.com are asked to fill out a medical questionnaire, which the site says is "thoroughly reviewed by one of our US licensed physicians."

The store remained open Friday. An employee answering the business telephone said he was not authorized to comment. Store owner Jack Huzl has an unlisted telephone number and could not be reached for comment.

A message left at the home of the pharmacist in charge, Charles Wiebke, was not immediately returned.

Teale said the board disciplined Huzl in 1989 and in 1999 the pharmacy was placed on probation for not adequately counseling clients picking up medication.

Hello Y'all,

I just wanted to say that I placed an order yesterday 9/15 and they were delivered this morning from Dr. Avello and from Miami as well. They seem to be running fine except I never received a email with the tracking I had to get that from there website. Also they are using Speedyscripts now and also shipping UPS.

Go figure...

You would think that the government would use their efforts for other more important things. Like they want all these BILLIONS of dollars to help pay for the war , why dont they leave the little guys alone and use the money for that , instead of waste it trying to shut down OPs all the time.

The feds seem to be watching this OP. Probably due to the media...
I wouldn't want my name or address associated with it, but then I am paranoid.

It's nice to see that "our" government is keeping us safe, yeah right! What about all the people that make more tax free money on the street selling illegal drugs? Do you think people who buy from a street corner "vender" are useing blow for their chronic pain? Stuff like this makes me want to move to Canada, at least there they have some idea about pain. Just walk in a Safeway in Canada and go to the drug isle, and you'll see what I mean. Like being able to buy Aspirin or Tylenol with Codeine without having the ATF at your front door the next morning. I can say IMHO that 99% of all the people who used BUYMEDS had a real medical reason to use them. And 99% of people and CHILDREN who buy from the street have no medical reason to buy drugs. Now the government is "keeping us safe" from places like BUYMEDS, the dealer on the street has it alot easier. Is it just me or does it tick all you AmeriCant's off how our Country is going about "Protecting us from bad people/things"? Sorry for going on, and on, but this is VERY bad for all of us that NEED medication, but can't afford seeing a Doctor who will most likely prescribe Advil for your pain cause the MEDIA and GOV has told him/her about the evils of painkillers. One more thing, sorry . Did anyone know that the abuse and overdoses of all Prescribed narcotic painkillers in the U.S.A has gone down 43% in the last 3 years, but the MEDIA coverage of narcotic painkillers has gone up 800%!!! Think about that! -AFI

No where in that artical does it say that Buymeds is 'gone' or 'done for'. It states that A pharmacy (that buymeds uses/used) is in trouble... that's the PHARMACY not the buymeds site. A friend of mine received his order a couple days ago from buymeds w/ no probs.
