Any really effective muscle relaxants out there?
      #100135 - 09/14/03 12:55 PM

So far I have tried Soma (doses large enough to work leave me like a zombie the next day), Doxylamine succinate (again, leaves me zonked) Robaxin (does very little except give me a headache) and valium(works well, but the level of dose I need to REALLY do the job is prohibitively $$$$$$$, and a quick way of goung through a lot of 10mg's!)
HAs anyone found a really effective relaxant, that is reasonably available form an OP, at a decent price - I prefer AM or Pharma24, but would be willing to try anywhere which ships from a reasonably "safe" country to the UK! PMs are welcome if you don't want to post.

Thanks in advance,

TSC

Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine?) is good, but make sure to take it two hours before bedtime or you will wake up with a hangover. Zanaflex is good also, but more expensive.

By the way...if I don't use it every night, Soma works very well for me and when taken with hydro, it's heavenly.

I can't say enough about Zanaflex. My PMD prescribed this newer on the market muscle relaxer for me about a year ago (to replace Soma) and it works great for my muscle spasms in my back. I get mine at Importeddrugs and they are pretty reasonable and reliable. This med is sedating and is similar to Soma, but stronger in my opinion.

Tizanidine (Generic Zanaflex) works wonders for my neck spasms, and I get it from my PCP doc...My doc is really cool, and knows that I get meds from the net, in fact he is totally cool with it, because he said that he knows I am in pain, but doesnt like prescribing pain meds, because he has been disciplined in the past by the DEA. I told him about the intractable pain act and he said that he fought the discipline with that law and they threatened to pull his liscense if he didnt drop it...but anywayz he gives me my Xanax and Tizanidine as he swears by them...I too like this medication, but it will make you feel like a zombie, I take a 1/2 tablet three times a day and that keeps my neck from being a spasmodic colon...Hope this helps..

I take flexeril at night and 200mg of skelaxin periodically during the day. Those help and are available from OPs.

Definitely Zanaflex. I can't take it anymore because of interferring with the EffexorXR and WellbutrinSR. I tried Soma, Robaxin, Flexeril, and others and Zanaflex is without a doubt the best. It knocked me out and I would get a good quality sleep. Feel good in the morning. I am now on Baclofen giving it a try, but I don't think it is that good. I will be getting another from my Pain Doc when I see him again.

Well Tsc,
There's an older muscle relaxant that works adequately.
Have you thought about giving "Equanil" (meprobamate) (600mg) a shot. It's an older muscle relexant, not used much today. But it is cheap and effective. But at least for me, the thresold is 600 mg, anything less and I don't feel the muscle-relaxing effects. The most effective muscle-relaxant I've found out there is Valium 10mg. You will definitely feel the stres around your shoulders melt-away, and genericly it's not expensive. Soma, robaxin, and paraform forte are also effect, but they are a little bit more expensive then the ones mentioned above. Flexiril, sketetal, zanaflex are also effective, but they make you very drowiness, and their effect hangs-over for some quite some time the next way. Especially Flexeril (10mg), it produces a strong sleepy effectively along with a very dry-mouth and at least for me, I don't "REELLY" like it. Cuz when you wake up the next day, you still feel sleepy and it takes a while (a least a few hours) to shake-off that drowsy out-of-it feeling and there's a definite irritability that stays with you during the waking hours. If you have a morning job, it will make it hard for you to concentrate in the morning and give you just a overall tired feeling. It's okay to take if you're off the next day, but if you working and your job requires critical thinking, then I wouldn't recommend it. If fact, flexeril was discovered when chemists were searching for new anti-psychotic medication like Thorazine. Flexeril was discover as a derivative from a major anti-psychotic (can't remember the name off-hand), when tested, it was found it has no traquilizing effects like it original med, but it was to be an excellent muscle relaxant. It's great to take if you expect to sleep-in the next day. But if you want to get yourself to work on time, don't take it. You're probably off with equanil or Soma. Of course, Valium is the best muscle-relaxant, but it has a slight hang-over effect. But that can be overcome with coffee in the morning. Anyway good luck on your choice of muscle relaxants.
