Call it what ya will, but if I am addicted, dependant what ever I have come to the conclusion it doesn't make a diddly to me. I simply can not function as a mother, wife or caretaker ect if I do not have something to control my pain.I guess some would say I am addicted, and some would say dependant. Either way I need the meidicine so I take it. The word dependant is a much softer word. I don't guess this is really insight as I don't know any medical terms for anything. I at one time worried endlessly about what I was taking and kept telling myself that I need to stop relying on medication to get through a day, but good greif that was such mental torture. So I do not beat myself up over this anymore, cause I gotta do what I gotta do.

Dependance and Addiction are related, but not the same thing, in my book anyway. If you are in chronic pain and DEPEND on hydro to relieve the pain and allow you to function, then you are dependant on hydro.
On the other hand if you use hydro for recreational purposes and get hooked, then you're addicted. In my mind addiction connotes abuse. This may just be semantics, but I would define an addict as somebody who needs a particluar drug not to treat symptoms, but rather primarily to avoid withdrawl.
Tolerance with opiates is unavoidable. The longer you take an opiate/opioid, the less effective it is. So you become tolerant and need more to get the same analgesic effect. That's what "hydro holidays" are all about, taking a break so your tolerance will drop and the meds will be more effective. For a while!
