I too was labelled a drug seeker at one point. I took that label up with my PCP and the local hospitals administrator. I said..drugseeker? Of course I am a drugseeker you moron. I didn't stop by for coffee, I am in pain for goodness sake. I had it removed from my records luckily since The practice linked to the files at the local ER and I went there one day in incredible ( legit ) pain and the doctor took one look at me and asked me if I wanted a shot of morphine to which I quickly responded...yes. ( So obviously he knew I needed pain meds, ER docs dont just offer shots of morphine like a hostess offers a cup of coffee) He came back in and said sorry I can't give you narcotics. You have been blackballed from receiving pain meds in non emergency cases. well... mad... let me tell you. For the record I had never even BEEN in that hospitals ER for pain meds EVER. I went to the next towns hospital ER and told them exactly what happened and they had NO problem giving me pain meds. ( dilaudid ) . After that experience I was so devestated at being labelled I went nine months in total agony, and went down to 72 pounds before my husband made me find a pain management doctor that treated me. Thank God for him..if I had gone much longer I would have been dead. I then went through the administation of that first hospital and the PCPs office and told them I was going to sue them if my records were not corrected. Not only did they not diagnose me correctly ( and nearly cost me my life) but they also put a shadow of doubt on me that will never fully be gone. All the local pharmacys had been notified as well. I had to go to them all and show them the letter from the local hospital stating that it had been an error. Of course most of the pharmacies denied a blacklist exists. ( I worked in an ER for years they do exist.. ) Doctors need to learn the difference between addiction, pseudo addiction and dependancy. I am living proof ( thank GOD I am living proof) that pain can kill you. It almost did me.. |
