I believe both things happen, some people try to take advantage and some are telling the truth; I think people automatically assume people are lying, as it's easier than trying to decide who is being truthful and who is lying, in this case, he could PROVE he was telling the truth, so it had a very different outcome; in most cases, like shortages, you can't prove it, so you're s*&^ out of luck. He got lucky. I'm not saying it's wrong, I don't know what I'd do in that position, they'd lost a lot of money if they refunded everyone on something that is impossible to prove, but I do know that I have been shorted a few pills a few times (not pointing at NWW in particular) I just wish everyone would back off and keep their opinions to themselves; we have NO way of knowing the truth and it's not our place to decide who is lying or not JMHO
