DTZNuff try using a surge protector to prevent that from happening again they are fairly cheap i think about 11 bucks. And lumber you are right about being grounded you can mess up your motherboard among other things, but i would recomend using a pair of electrostatic gloves so if you do need to change anything in your PC you dont let any static hurt your PC.
