What you are probably getting are tracking cookies from web pages, I believe one was mentioned on the original thread, and yes some freeware has spyware bundled in it. Adaware or spybot will remove it. I use both but find that spybot will find things that adaware will not. Also spybot will allow you to immunize your computer to some 500 known threats. All updates for these products are continious & free.
