I personally know people that are on Oxycontin or closely related drugs and 99% of the time if the person REALLY needs this substance it will be prescribed at the discretion of a doctor.
I totally agree with you about this and have wanted to say it for so long, but there are people here who will misinterpret this (perhaps even intentionally) to mean I don't think they are in legitimate pain--which is NOT my intent at all. I was my own worst enemy with pain management. I just suffered figuring that nobody WOULD help me, and my condition had gone undiagnosed for over a decade. The Pain management appointment was a godsend. My pain is treated, legally and adequately through the pain clinic. I didn't have to go from doctor to doctor to doctor. I just was a victim of the "no doctor will help me" mentality and so I sat for so many years doing NOTHING. I am SO glad my family doc (of 9 years) FINALLY sent me out to the pain clinic.
I always respond to the PMs about OC with "have you tried visiting your doctor with the medical complaint that has you in such severe pain?" I have NOT ONE TIME gotten a response to that.
