Morphine is 75% cleared by the liver before it egts to the bloodstream; 30mg MSCONTIN is equivilant to 7.5mg morphine IV OVER 6 hours. Oxycodone is NOT CLEARDEd by the liver before blood. So in general a 40mg oxycontin tabled would be more effective than taking 30mg morphine orally over 6 hours.

But everyone is different - your mileage may vary. I have found that 20mg morphine IV (or 80mg orally) is way too sedating for me to function. The oxy (or even hydro) is not as sedating.

If the 30mg MSCONTIN works for pain - ask for 15mg OXYIR or 40mg oxycontin to replace it.

And the people who abouse Oxy to emulate hgerion also usually take clonipin (or another sedating benzo) to emulate the morphine/herion effects.

I wouldn't know - I have a sleep disorder and 1mg of clonipin makes me pass out
