BBM,
Neurotin, as everyone has already stated, is not for pain, however, it is believed that it has the abilty to coat nerve endings and lessen the pain associated with those nerves. Therefore, if you do not have a pinched nerved in your back, foramenal narrowing or chronic migraines, there is no reason for you to take Neurotin. There are too many unwanted side effects that you may experience from it. This is an obvious case where your Doctor is a coward and more concerned with preserving his medical license, than he is with caring for and treating his patients with the proper medication. It's amazing that they take the Hypocratic Oath to become doctors, but very few of them abide by it. If it doesn't work, just tell him it doesn't and then question him as to why he took you off of a medication that was effective for your pain. By the way, Neurotin has produced no clinical evidence that shows it reduces pain, therefore, it should be used "in conjunction" with a pain reliever such as Hydrocodone or Oxycodone for moderate to severe pain associated with nerve encroachment ar narrowing of the foramen (or spinal canal), and not by itself. Good luck.
