Re: A & E show Intervention

I agree that this show has been pretty powerful (all of the episodes so far). But...I'm not a *fan* of reality television (too much editing and yes, scripting) and I watch it wondering, what the *rest* of the world really thinks when they see this type of show and haven't a clue about chronic pain issues, addiction, or any type of disorder in general. Although "Intervention" is a pretty okay thumbnail view - how many parents and friends will rail on their loved ones because they see something in this type of format and think AHA!! that's HER or HIM! WE MUST GET HELP NOW!!!

Interventions were a HUGE money maker about 15 years ago - when everyone and their dog was going to Betty Ford, Hazelden and other rehabs - everyone was looked at with that *eagle* eye - and if you look close enough we all have a flaw that would send us into the arms of a money making *center* for our supposed *betterment*

I'd like to think people are smarter than I know the general population to be - in other words, I certainly hope we don't have a rash of *interventions* when that isn't the needed resolution. In most of our situations here - this resolution (OP's) is what we have come to (been forced to) for our chronic pain issues - we have had to form our own world, this board, us as family and understanding friends. When it should be that the health care system is trustworthy in supplying what we need for our various and sundry ailments and we are not forced to keep any of it a dirty little secret.
