Re: VISA and Mastercard laying the smackdown

I would be really surprised if the (I)OP's who are affected by this cannot figure out a way to get around it. I think we just need to give them time until they implement a new solution. Things will never get to the point where every single purchase will be scrutinized. If need be, the (I)OP's will gobbled up multiple merchant accounts, do a rotation of third party providers, offshore stuff, whatever. They will find creative ways around it, if it even becomes such a problem.

I do much prefer to use a credit card. I like an OP who keeps my credit card on file and will just give me a total and let me charge it, all automated. I hate having to call up the pharmacy, speak to someone who could make a mistake about the total, and then I have to schlep to 7-11 to get a money order. Yes, I know sometimes the tracking information will tell you the total, but not always, and I've seen mistakes before.

This is just a nervous time for (I)OP's. But always remember that telemedicine is here to stay- the rules may go through several revisions, several overzealous new bills, a few OP's leaving the game, stuff like that. But there will be a time when there is a clear, legal business model for OP's to follow. Some OP's will follow that perfectly, some will be more lax, and some will completely disregard it and do business as usual (and if they get closed up, they'll reopen a few months later, JUST like it is now).

The future of medicine is telemedicine, without a doubt. There will be all kinds of doctors in the future, just like there are now, with varying levels of compassion and generosity with their virtual prescription pads.
