I'm new here but I've had quite the experience with an SSRI-Celexa(citalopram). It did help while I was on it, I didn't let things get to me so much, less panic and all that...but boy oh boy don't lower your dose suddenly, forget to take it, or stop suddenly either!!!!The withdrawals from that mistake lasted a month and a half and were awful.
I have heard of people who had no prob with them but I wasn't fortunate enough I guess. I was on no other meds at the time and the withdrawals included trails when you moved or got up too fast, fatigue, no hunger, malaise, a total lack of caring for your health and hygeine no matter how clean you were before, worse depression than why you started in the first place, and complete mental confusion. You just don't feel right mentally or physically. Your seratonin receptors are used to getting a certain dose and then when you stop, you brain has to get back to making it by itself again and you do go through a bad withdrawal.
I'm not exaggerating. I think it's sad that I wasn't told about this possibility and I would have done better without them. I'm glad for the people they help but it's awful thinking of a kid going through what I could hardly handle as an adult. If anyone decides to take them, just please be careful about your dosing and come off of it slowly...much more slowly than with opiates or benzos..seriously. I had to come down about 5 to 7mg every 2 weeks. I just had such a bad time with them I had to tell you all to be careful if you do feel you need them.
