Just a side note: I know a LOT of people who have benefited from Bush's tax cuts. It is a complex issue but low income families have been given a "shot in the arm" on their tax return this year with the extra child tax credits (increased for two years in a row) plus those rebate checks that left the governments hands and went into ours and into the economy. People always talk about the "2% getting tax breaks". The top 20% of wage earners pay 80% of taxes. This is fact! What people don't realize is that when big corporations become overwhelmed with HEAVY taxes, they just move their operations overseas to avoid the taxes, and hire employees for cheaper wages. What does that mean? It means we loose JOBS HERE IN THE USA! This is reality. What boosted the economy in the 90's? Bill Gates. With the development of windows, the Internet, and EVERY business associated with it the economy grew at a phenomenal rate. When the peak was over (six month before Clinton left office BTW) computers started collecting dust on the shelves. People who blame the economy on Bush should research the facts. I am an Independent myself, but Clinton was fortunate to be Prez when the PC industry boomed. Could this be "trickle down economics"? All I know people had jobs, BUT lay-offs started BEFORE Bush was in office. I know, my wife worked for Texas Inst. and was laid off during the "Clinton era". Just food for thought. Jimbo |
