Re: Studies Suggest the Mind Makes, Breaks Its Misery

To a certain degree, pain is an act of imagination

I guess I have a very active imagination, then!

Well, there is definitely truth in this article. I know for a fact that the more emotionally reactive we are to pain, the worse it hurts.

This recalls to mind migraines. If I start crying or feeling desperate/helpless/hopeless because my head hurts so much, the pain is intensified until I can get my EMOTIONAL response to it under control.

Another example of this phenomenon is my methadone detox last year. When an event occured that ENTIRELY redirected the focus of my life from the detox to SURVIVAL, the detox symptoms nearly disappeared altogether.

In my opinion, there is proof in the pudding. Mine's tapioca!
