Pardon the expression, but there's more than one way to skin a cat (I love cats, so please don't take offense)...

If the FDA/DEA couldn't take out OP's by any other means, this is a guaranteed way to cut their business down substantially.

What doesn't make sense is that they haven't targeted benzos yet. They are probably even more addictive (and certainly more dangerous to withdraw from) than opiates. Yet they maintain their Schedule IV status.

Wonder which lobbying organization/PACs/and or major political contributors are in their back pockets???
