Quote: That fuss way back about private mail service was just politics. I don't think anybody had to pay any "back postage" for using private couriers. None of the private carriers could deliver a 1-oz envelope within a week to anywhere in the country for 37 cents. The USPS needs a subsidy of over a billion dollars a year and almost free carriage on scheduled air carriers to accomplish it. The U.S. government is one of FedEx's biggest customers and they also get the lowest rates. USPS can't compete on quality of service. USPS now has cooperative agreements with both FedEx and Airborne. Almost every post office has a FedEx dropoff box on their federal property ... and FedEx planes now carry Express Mail and Priority Mail. Plus ... FedEx is the only overnight carrier approved for classified. Yup. USPS Express Mail is not good enough for that stuff; the only alternative to FedEx Priority is Registered Mail. And Airborne doesn't do Saturday delivery here anymore ... they hand those packages over to USPS for Saturday delivery. If you can't beat them, join them. Trampy |
