A STRAGGERING 20 percent Americans run to their doctors complaing og agonizing pain- yet most physicians don't have a clue how to treat them.
And a survey of 125 medical schools by the Association of America Medical Colleges reveals that only four required students to enroll in a course for pain management. Yet, 50 millon patients suffer from chronic and persistent pain.
"Untreated pain, tragically, is an epidemic in the US" says DR. Lousis Sullivan, former secretary of health and human services.
Now, a textbook for the internet is being developed by The American Academy of Pain Medicine, which will teach med students about the common types of pain and how to treat them.
