Re: Getting Disability Benefits (US)

Grizzlypaw-
So does that mean that you will get $1,554.00 a month forever? Please forgive me if that is a stupid question but I really have no clue how that works.

Also, when you mentioned that it is based on the last 10 quarters, how long is each quarter? Does it pick the 10 quarters that the most income was earned or is it just the "last" 10 quarters you worked?

Geez, here I was fretting because I felt like I was being jipped by my disability insurance company because I have only been getting about $1,900 a month on my short term disability claim. Granted it will not be forever and I am not even sure that my back pain will let up enough for me to even return to work on a full time basis. But at least I found out that the insurance plan that my employer opted is allowing me to stay on short term disability for 3 years, unlike some plans that only allow short term to last about 6 months to one year.

Hopefully I will not need to be on this for 3 years, but at least I know it is there. Although I would assume that knowing that a monthly check will be coming from SSDI would be even more reasurring!

Either way I hope that I will be able to get back to work. I feel like I am wasting a really expensive college education!! HA!
