This odious position of the US Gov't assumes that people, who "seek" (opiate) drugs are somehow morally defective, the same position taken about alcoholics, prostitutes and anyone else not measuring up to the manufactured morality of our mass media and our political manipulators, in their attempt to buy votes and sell crime drama on TV.
Just as people have chemical imbalances in other neurotransmitter subsystems, it is very likely that some people have imbalances in their opiod subsystems. It's time to stop being sheep - people of pain! Opiates are just as legitimate as SSRI's and often a hell of a lot more effective.
