Re: The Story of Dr. Awad

After reading this story, I am incensed yet gratified that Dr. Aziz Awad was able to win the unfair and scandalous case against him. He is one of the lucky ones, though. The stories of too many innocent doctors do not end as happily. I, for one, will be calling in to leave my opinion. I think Dr. Awad should sue as many people as were involved in slandering his name--although I do hope that his patients are well taken care of, something he should have been left alone to do in the first place--because the only way these self-righteous pharmacists, DEA practicing medicine without a license, and self-proclaimed drug messiahs are going to learn is if they are hit in their pocketbooks.

I also wonder how Dr. Awad's race/nationality affected the decision to single him out for prosecution--could it be an Arab was a victim of prosecutorial opportunism? It certainly wouldn't be the first time racial/ethnic profiling was used to prosecute imagined drug offenses in California or elsewhere in the USA.

Good luck Dr. Awad, may you continue to practice medicine and help to ease the pain of your patients for a long time to come, and may Peace be upon you.
